One man was killed in a deadly car accident in Huntington Beach. A speeding Tesla lost control and sideswiped a car heading in the opposite direction before crashing into several other vehicles at a major intersection.
The driver of the Tesla was the only fatality in the accident, which happened on Tuesday, December 2, at the intersection of Goldenwest Street and Heil Avenue.
Fatal Car Accident in Huntington Beach
The accident occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. Police officers arrived at the scene to find the aftermath of a crash involving seven vehicles in total.
A Tesla Model 3 is believed to have passed through the intersection at high speed. It cut between lanes and then clipped the side of another vehicle in the intersection. The driver lost control of the Tesla and flipped over in a rollover crash, coming to rest on its roof.
Officers did not provide an estimated speed for the vehicle. However, one eyewitness said they believed the Tesla may have been speeding at about 100 mph.
The driver of the Tesla died in the crash. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department identified him as Huntington Beach resident Ryan Mark Larson. Three others were taken to the hospital for treatment after their vehicles were struck in the incident.
An investigation into the accident is underway. At this time, it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol were involved. Investigators are also unsure whether Tesla’s Autopilot or Self-Driving modes were engaged.
