Pro Skater and Model from Orange County Hopes Surgery Will Help Fix Her Face After Dog AttackBrooklinn Khoury, 22, a pro skater and model from Mission Viejo, is hoping that surgery will help repair her upper lip and parts of her nose, which were torn off in a horrific dog attack in November 2020. According to a report in the New York Post, Khoury suffered horrific injuries from the dog bite while visiting family in Arizona, a day before she was set to film her first television commercial.

Disfiguring Injuries

The influencer, who was featured in a Vogue spread of female skaters a month before the dog attack, continued to post skating videos in spite of her disfigurement using a bandage or hand to try and hide the wound. But, her injury attracted more attention as she started getting $1,000 per post from sponsors.

Khoury told the reporters that the dog attack lasted “a good 30 seconds” adding that the animal shook her head like a toy ripping her upper lip and parts of her nose. She later posted updates on YouTube, announcing that she found a surgeon to repair the damage a year after the injury. The surgery, which cost $400,000, took place Nov. 17. She said on Instagram that the dog attack taught her to love herself “inside and out and regardless of what people have to say.”

Khoury’s spirit is commendable and we are amazed at her ability to bounce back from these horrific injuries, which may have been career-ending for her as a model. We wish her the best.

Dog Bites and Liability Issues

Brooklinn Khoury’s story is also an example of how dog attacks can completely turn lives upside down. In this case, we saw an aspiring skateboarder and model who was getting ready for her first television commercial get mauled and disfigured in a dog attack. Dog bites are not just physically painful. They also result in severe emotional trauma, psychological effects such as post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety, as well as the financial repercussions that come from mounting medical expenses and loss of income.

Under California law, dog owners can be held financially liable for the injuries, damages, and losses victims suffer. Injured victims can seek compensation for losses including medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of cosmetic surgery, rehabilitation, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. An experienced Orange County dog bite lawyer can help injured victims understand their legal rights and options better.
