Prior Greyhound Bus Crashes in California

In the last two years, federal transportation officials have reported 33 Greyhound bus crashes across the U.S., three turning fatal. There have been several crashes involving Greyhound buses in California. In 2019, a Los Angeles man admitted to crashing a bus full of passengers in Fresno while under the influence of marijuana.

In 2016, there were two crashes in October and December in the South Valley, the first in Traver, where 14 passengers were injured after the bus veered off Highway 99. Passengers said the driver was eating. Months later, there was a crash in Kettleman City where another driver lost control of a truck and hit a Greyhound bus.

If You Have Been Injured in a Bus Accident

Based on this news report, the driver lost control of the bus, causing it to veer off the roadway. It is unclear why the bus driver lost control. Was he or she impaired by alcohol or drugs? Did the driver fall asleep at the wheel? A thorough investigation is needed to determine what occurred here and why. Bus companies – whether public or private – have a duty of care to transport passengers safely.

If an accident occurred because of driver negligence, the bus company could be held financially liable for the injuries, damages, and losses caused. Injured bus accident victims may be able to seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, permanent injuries, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
