Tiger Woods Suffers Severe Leg Injuries in Palos Verdes Rollover Crash

LA County Sheriff Says Excessive Speed Caused Crash That Injured Tiger Woods

Golfing legend Tiger Woods is undergoing surgery after suffering multiple leg injuries in a rollover crash in Palos Verdes the morning of Feb. 23. According to a KTLA news report; Woods was the lone occupant in the SUV when it crashed in the area of Hawthorne Boulevard and Blackhorse Road on the border of Rancho Palos Verdes and Rolling Hills Estates.

Serious Injuries Reported

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said first responders had to use the “jaws of life” to extricate Woods from the vehicle, which was heavily damaged. Video over the scene showed the gray SUV in a brushy area off the side of the roadway. Woods was transported to a nearby hospital.

His manager told the Associated Press that Woods suffered multiple leg injuries and was undergoing surgery. It is not clear what caused the rollover accident and investigators were on scene hours after the crash, combing the area for evidence. Woods was in Los Angeles over the weekend as the tournament host of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera, where he presented the trophy.

Prior Incidents

This is the third time Woods has been involved in a car investigation. The first time was in 2009 when his SUV ran over a fire hydrant and struck a tree. That incident began with shocking revelations that Woods had cheated on his wife with multiple women.

In May 2017, Florida police found him asleep behind the wheel of a car parked awkwardly on the side of the road. He was arrested on suspicion of a DUI charge and said later that he had an unexpected reaction to a prescription medication he was taking for back pain. Woods later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and checked into a clinic to get help with prescription medication and a sleep disorder.

Ongoing Investigation

Our Los Angeles car accident lawyers will be following the ongoing investigation into this incident, which will hopefully answer more questions. Was impairment or fatigue a factor? Was a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction in the SUV that caused Woods to lose control and roll over the vehicle? We hope officials are able to arrive at a determination as to what precisely caused this crash. We will also watch closely how these injuries affect Woods’ illustrious golfing career. We wish him the very best for a quick and full recovery.
