A private Cessna 550 plane crashed into the Murphy Canyon neighborhood in San Diego on May 22, 2025, during dense fog, resulting in a massive fireball and no survivors. The crash damaged approximately 15 homes and multiple cars and caused power outages in the area. The plane’s fuel flowing down the street created a HAZMAT situation, forcing residents to evacuate.
Authorities are investigating whether the plane hit a power line, but the exact cause of the crash remains unknown. This incident follows previous plane crashes in San Diego, including one in 2021 and another in 2008 involving a Marine Corps fighter jet.
During thick fog, the Cessna 550 crashed around 4:00 am; no survivors were on board. The San Diego Fire Department is still investigating the crash and said there could have been 8-10 people onboard the flight. No one was injured on the ground, but the crash impacted multiple homes and cars. Reports indicate that the incident affected about 15 homes. The cause of the plane crash remains under investigation.
