Mazda Recalls More Than 120,000 Vehicles for Stalling Issues

Mazda is recalling more than 121,000 cars and SUVs for fuel pumps that could fail and cause the vehicles to stall in motion. According to Consumer Reports, the affected cars could stall if the fuel pump fails when the vehicle moves, which could cause a crash. The vehicle may also fail to start.

Details of the Recall

Mazda claims that a batch of more than 2 million low-pressure, defective fuel pumps is to blame for the issue. The pumps were manufactured by an automotive supplier called Denso and were installed on Acura, Ford, Honda, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Toyota. Toyota has already recalled more than 3 million vehicles.

Included in the Mazda recall are 2018 Mazda3 sedans and hatchbacks, 2018 Mazda6 sedans, 2019 CX-3 SUVs, 2018 and 2019 MX-5 Miata coupes and convertibles, 2018 and 2019 CX-5 and CX-9 SUVs, and 2019 and 2020 Mazda2 hatchbacks. When the recall begins in January, Mazda dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the fuel pump free of charge. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. It is unclear whether these defects have caused crashes, injuries, or fatalities.

Auto Product Liability Issues

Vehicle stalling is a severe issue. When vehicles stall, drivers could lose control, leading to a crash. Also, when vehicles unexpectedly stall on a busy roadway or freeway, other vehicles are likely to strike the stalled car. We see these types of incidents resulting in significant injuries or even fatalities. When vehicles stall while in motion, crashes are more likely to occur.

If a defective auto caused your injuries, you may be able to file an auto product liability claim against the manufacturer, seeking compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. If you have lost a loved one as a result of a defective vehicle or vehicle part, you may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit to seek compensation for your losses.
