A woman suffered severe injuries in a dog attack after several dogs reportedly attacked her in an unincorporated area of Northeast Antelope Valley near Lake Los Angeles.
According to a KTLA news report, the woman was left facedown in the dirt and covered in blood after being mauled by several dogs. A witness got out of his vehicle and tried to help the wounded victim lying unconscious.
Attacked by a Pack of Dogs
Video from the scene showed arriving Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel treating the victim as she was on the ground and bleeding from apparent dog bites to her face and head. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital in unknown condition.
A neighbor in the area said she believed the victim was between 25 and 30. The KTLA report said a pack of seven dogs might have attacked her. There was no information about whether animal control was contacted or if the dogs’ owners were identified. Neighbors also told KTLA that it was common to see dogs roaming freely in the neighborhood and acting aggressively.
We certainly hope that this dog bite victim did not suffer major injuries. We wish her the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. She will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Responsibility of Dog Owners
Dog owners are responsible for ensuring their dogs are spayed/neutered and kept enclosed within their yard or property. It is irresponsible and negligent for dog owners to allow their pets to roam freely in the neighborhood – posing a danger to passersby.
California has a strict liability statute when it comes to dog attacks. California’s Civil Code Section 3342 states: “The owner of any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness.”
If you or a loved one has been injured in a dog attack, it is important that you reach out to an experienced Los Angeles dog bite lawyer to obtain more information about pursuing your legal rights. You may be able to seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost income, cost of hospitalization, permanent injuries (scarring and disfigurement), expenses related to cosmetic surgeries, and pain and suffering.
