Pastor Suffers Injuries After SoCal Edison Crane Collapses on Home

Pastor Carl Kromming of Long Beach suffered head injuries and broken ribs after a Southern California Edison fell over in a residential area of Long Beach the morning of Oct. 7. According to a CBS news report, officers responded to assist the fire department in the 300 block of 61st Street regarding reports of a fallen crane. Kromming was the only resident who suffered injuries. He was in his backyard underneath his carport when the crane collapsed. He told CBS he was putting gas in his generator because he has a son with cerebral palsy who requires medical equipment.

Cell phone video recorded moments before the collapse showed a wooden utility police being removed. The pole and the top of the crane landed on an RV cover taking out a portion of a roof and a neighboring fence. Kromming said he roof of his patio came down on him, but thankfully, he was close to the house. Even though he was able to avoid critical injuries, he needed nine staples in his head and broke two ribs. SoCal Edison has said it is investigating the cause of the crane collapse.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Pastor Carl Kromming as he recovers from his injuries. We wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

What Caused the Crane Collapse?

Based on this news report, it is unclear as to what caused the crane collapse. There are a number of unanswered questions here. Was there a problem with the equipment? Was there an inherent defect in the crane? Did the crane malfunction because of lack of proper maintenance or repair? Did the collapse occur due to operator error or negligence? We trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred and why.

Liability and Compensation

In such cases the injured victim may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit against the utility company and other potential parties whose negligence may have caused or contributed to this crane collapse. For example, if the crane was defectively built, the manufacturer of the crane can be held liable in addition to the utility company. It is important in such cases to preserve all evidence in tact.

Injured victims can seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, permanent injuries, pain and suffering and emotional distress. An experienced Long Beach personal injury lawyer will be able to stay abreast of the official investigation and help ensure that victims’ legal rights and best interests are protected.
