Nissan Has No Fix for Car Fire Auto Defect

Nissan Has No Fix for Auto Defect That Puts 400,000 Vehicles on the Road at Risk

An auto defect could cause nearly 400,000 Nissan vehicles currently on the road in the U.S. to catch fire, and the manufacturer currently has no fix for the problem. A disturbing article on Click2Houston reveals that the combustion problem has so far caused a number of car fires, home fires, and has even caused a blaze at a car dealership. Nissan has issued multiple recalls for affected Muranos, Maximas, Infinitis, and Pathfinders, but does not yet have a fix.

Vehicles Catching Fire

Drivers whose Nissan vehicles have burned up say that the automaker has ignored them and taken no responsibility. One driver said her car suddenly smelled like burning plastic. She immediately parked her 2016 Nissan Murano and started walking home because she did not feel safe driving it. Within a couple of minutes, the woman saw her car engulfed in flames. Neither she nor her husband knew that their Nissan Murano SUV had been recalled.

They said they did not receive the recall notice the automaker claims it sent out in December 2019. Even if they had received the recall notice, it wouldn’t have done them a whole lot of good, because Nissan had no fix for the problem. When the couple contacted Nissan, the automaker passed the buck to the insurance company and washed its hands off the matter, they said.

The problem with these vehicles, as explained by Nissan is that an inadequate oil seal might cause brake fluid to leak leading to an electrical short in the ABS actuator circuit.

This could cause the vehicle to catch fire. The automaker warned drivers that if the ABS light comes on and stays on for more than 10 seconds after they start the engine, they should not park the vehicle in their garage or near any other structures or vehicles. Many of the same vehicles were recalled, but not repaired for the same issue in April 2016, September 2016, and September 2018.

Auto Product Liability Issues

Vehicle fires can lead to injuries, loss of life, and property damage. It is unacceptable that Nissan has recalled these vehicles, but has offered no fix for them after putting consumers in grave danger.

If you have been injured by these or other auto defects, you may be able to seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, permanent injuries, disfigurement, disabilities and pain and suffering.
