A Cal State Fullerton soccer player has died after sustaining fatal injuries when she was hit by a truck while riding an e-scooter.
Lauren Turner was riding an electric scooter to a soccer game with her friend and teammate Ashlynn Gwynn when they were struck by a box truck in September 2025.
Lauren spent nearly six weeks in the ICU following the crash before succumbing to her injuries.
Truck vs. E-scooter Accident Involving Cal State Fullerton Student Athletes
The electric scooter crash occurred at about 7 pm on September 27, near the Cal State Fullerton campus. The two victims, both sophomores at CSUF, rode e-scooters to watch a men’s soccer game when a vehicle struck them.
They both sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. On November 7, Lauren’s family, from Tustin, announced that she had passed. The message was added to a GoFundMe page set up for Lauren and included moving tributes from her family and her Titan teammates.
Ashlyn Gwynn survived the collision but is facing a lengthy recovery and extensive rehabilitation treatment. A fundraiser to help with her recovery costs can be found here.
Since the accident, the women’s soccer coach at Cal State Fullerton has implemented a rule requiring all his players to wear helmets while riding scooters around campus. The law only requires helmets for riders aged under 18.
Trucks and E-Scooters a Dangerous Mix
Our hearts go out to the family of Lauren Turner, and we wish Ashlyn Gwynn the very best in her recovery. At Bisnar Chase, we have handled many truck collision cases and electric bike accidents.
We know firsthand the devastating impact these results can have. E-bike riders are at a higher risk of injury when sharing the road with large trucks or commercial vehicles. Fullerton is a high-risk area due to the large number of pedestrians surrounding the college.
