Morfboard Skate and Scooter Toys Recalled for Fall and Injury Hazards

Morfboard Skate and Scooter Toys Recalled for Fall and Injury Hazards

About 162,000 Morfboard Skate & Scoot Combo toys were recalled because the “Y” handlebars could break posing a fall and injury hazard. According to an alert posted on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the company has so far received 18 reports of the “Y” handlebars breaking.

Details of the Recall

One injury has been reported where a child fell and suffered a bloody nose. The recalled Morfboard toys were sold at Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, Meijer, BJ’s Wholesale Club stores nationwide, and online at Amazon.com and morfboard.com, from February 2018 to August 2020. The products cost about $100 and were sold in a number of colors.

If you have these scooters at home, take them away from your children right away and contact Jakks Pacific for a free replacement “T” handlebar. The toy has interchangeable parts that convert into a scooter or a skateboard. The scooter is assembled by inserting the handlebar into the baseboard. For more information, visit Jakks Pacific online at jakks.com or call 855-602-5464.

Toy-Related Injuries

According to the CPSC, there were 226,000 toy-related injuries reported in 2018. Of these injuries, 37% involved children 5 and under. Specific toys that caused the most injuries, according to this report, were non-motorized scooters, building sets, and toy vehicles. In fact, building sets and toy vehicles accounted for 13% of injuries in children 5 and under. Non-motorized vehicles accounted for 19% of injuries in children 15 years and under. Falls from scooters could result in facial injuries, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord trauma, broken bones, lacerations, contusions, etc.

These types of accidents occur because of a product defect or because of defective design or the use of substandard parts and construction. If your child has been injured as the result of a dangerous or defective toy, you may be able to seek compensation for damages by filing a product defect lawsuit. Injured victims can seek compensation for losses including medical expenses, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, permanent injuries, disabilities, pain and suffering and emotional distress. An experienced scooter injury lawyer will be able to advise victims and their families regarding their legal rights and options.
