Five people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the 5 Freeway involving an inmate transport van and at least one other vehicle.
The crash happened on the freeway near the Mission Hills and Pacoima neighborhoods in Los Angeles. It resulted in several injuries that required treatment.
The accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
Inmate Van Accident on the 5 Freeway
The accident happened at about 8:50 am on Monday, December 29. Two inmates were being transported in a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department van traveling north on the I-5 freeway when they were involved in a multi-vehicle collision.
The van was involved in a crash with another white van. The other van was left facing in the wrong direction with significant damage to the front quarter.
It is unclear whether the collision impacted any other vehicles. The incident occurred south of Paxton Street, near the Pacoima and Mission Hills areas.
Five people were treated for minor injuries and transported to a hospital. Two of the injury victims are believed to have been the inmates from the LASD transport.
Following the car accident, a section of four lanes was coned off by emergency services as they secured the area, provided treatment, and recovered the vehicles.
