Volvo Recalls Cars for Doors that Can Open Unexpectedly

volvo recall

Volvo is recalling 144,937 sedans and V60 wagons from the 2011-2017 model years because their doors may open unexpectedly when the vehicle is in motion. According to Consumer Affairs, the doors may suddenly fling open during sharp turns or roundabouts even if they appear to be tightly shut. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says the problem is because of faulty parts within the door-latch mechanism that is more likely to fail when the weather is extremely hot.

Details of the Recall

NHTSA opened the investigation that led to the recall after getting complaints from vehicle owners. By January 24, 2020, owners of the affected vehicles will receive a contact. They will be instructed to bring in their vehicles to Volvo dealers who will then replace all four door latches at no cost. The recalled vehicles include certain Volvo S60 vehicles, S60 Inscription, and S60 Cross Country sedans and V60 and V60 Cross Country wagons.

All of the vehicles included in this recall were manufactured from June 2, 2010-Dec. 31, 2016. In extremely hot weather, the faulty door latch may break when the door is being opened or closed. It could also open when the vehicle is in motion. You can check NHTSA’s website to see if your vehicle is recalled. Simply enter your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number or VIN. If your vehicle doesn’t show up in the search, it means your vehicle does not currently have an open recall. However, since automakers issue recalls often, it may be best to check back the website regularly.

Auto Product Liability Issues

If these or other auto defects have injured you or a loved one, you may be eligible to receive compensation for your injuries, damages and losses. In order to do so, victims must file a product liability claim and prove that they were injured as a result of the design flaws or manufacturing errors that made the product defective. Injured victims can claim damages including medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation and pain and suffering. A resourceful auto defect law firm will be able to help injured victims and their families seek and obtain maximum compensation for the damages and losses they have sustained.
