More Than 100,000 Vitamix Blenders Recalled for Laceration Hazards

More Than 100,000 Vitamix Blenders Recalled for Laceration Hazards

More than 100,000 Vitamix blender containers sold at large stores such as Costco and Williams-Sonoma have been recalled because they could separate from the base exposing the blades and increasing the risk that people could get cut while using them. According to an NBC New York news report, Vitamix announced the recall this week saying it has received 11 reports of lacerations. It is not clear how severe these lacerations were.

According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall involves Ascent™ and Venturist™ series 8-ounce and 20-ounce blending containers with blade date codes March 2018 (“03-18”) or earlier.

Details of the Recall

The affected products were sold nationwide at large retailers and also online at vitamix.com from April 2017 through July 2018. Prices ranged from $24 to $500. A majority of these blenders were sold in the United States and a few thousand were sold in Canada. Anyone who has one of these recalled blending containers is asked to stop using it and contact Vitamix for a free repair kit.

The company says if the blade base is marked on the bottom with a green or orange dot, it means the container has already been repaired. Anyone with additional questions or concerns is asked to contact Vitamix at 888-847-88342 or go to recallrtr.com/blender for information.

Product Liability Issues

Product liability laws help consumers seek compensation for injuries they suffered as a result of dangerous and defective products. If you have been injured as a result of a product that was defectively designed or manufactured, you may be able to seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, permanent injuries, disabilities, pain and suffering and emotional distress.

Injured victims in such cases would be well advised to contact an experienced product defect lawyer who will analyze all aspects of the case and help them seek compensation for the injuries, damages and losses they have sustained. In such cases, in addition to the product manufacturer, there are other parties that can be held liable including the retailer, distributor, designer, parts manufacturer, etc.

If you have a defective or recalled product at home, it would be in your best interest to get a free repair kit or to return the product to the point of purchase for a full refund. It is never worth it to take a chance with a faulty product.
