Listeria Outbreak Linked to Sandwiches in California and Nevada

Fresh and Ready lsiteria outbreak

At least 10 people in California and Nevada have been hospitalized due to a Listeria outbreak linked to contaminated ready-to-eat sandwiches and other products from Fresh & Ready Foods, LLC.

Fresh & Ready Foods, a San Fernando, California company, was blamed for the spread. More than 80 items, such as sandwiches, pasta, and snack boxes, have been recalled. Hospitals, hotels, corporate offices, convenience shops, airports, and airlines all sold or distributed the tainted goods.

Arizona, California, Nevada, and Washington sold the items, and their best-buy dates were from April 22 to May 19. The FDA and the CDC found the outbreak by looking at hospital admissions and public health statistics. The last case was reported in January 2024.

In April 2025, routine tests at the Fresh & Ready Foods plant found Listeria strains that matched the strain responsible for the outbreak, with some found on equipment.

The FDA announced the following statement on its website just hours ago:

The FDA is investigating an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes related to ready-to-eat foods, as of May 2025.  Do not eat, sell, or serve recalled Ready-to-Eat Sandwiches and Snack Items made by Fresh & Ready Foods. FDA’s Investigation is ongoing.”

Recalled Fresh and Ready Items

Several RTE sandwiches and snack items, which have “Use By” dates ranging from 4/22/2025 to 05/19/2025, are sold under brand names such as Fresh & Ready Foods, City Point Market Fresh Food to Go, and Fresh Take Crave Away.
