American Honda Motor Company is recalling about 340,000 portable generators because they can pose fire and burn injury hazards. According to Consumer Affairs, the Torrance-based company is recalling the EB2200i, EU2200i, EU 2200i Companion and EU2200i Camo Portable Generators. In these products, the inverter assembly can short circuit with the presence of saltwater, causing the unit to smoke or catch fire, posing the danger of fire and/or burn injuries.

Details of the Recall

So far, the company has received 13 reports of the generator’s inverter assembly short-circuiting while in use, including 10 reports of a fire. No injuries or property damage were reported. The recalled portable generators were sold with a red or Camo cover. The name “Honda” and the generator model name are printed on the control panel. The serial number is located on the lower corner of one of the generator’s side panels.

The generators, which were made in Thailand, were sold at authorized Honda Power Equipment Dealers, The Home Depot and other home improvement stores nationwide and online from February 2018 through January 2020, for between $1,100 to $1,300.

If you have these products at home, you are urged to stop using them right away and contact a local authorized Honda Power Equipment service dealer to schedule a free repair. The company issued a similar recall for 200,000 generators in 2019. Honda is contacting all known purchasers directly. Consumers who took part in the previous recall for these generators should also take part in this one. Product Liability Issues

While some equipment fires are caused by improper use, as product defect attorneys, we’ve handled a number of cases where fires and serious burn injuries are caused by defective products such as heaters, grills and generators. While these types of fires may result in significant property damage, they can also cause major, disfiguring injuries. In some cases, these fires could also result in deaths.

If you have purchased a defective product, you may wish to join a class-action lawsuit, which helps you secure some compensation such as the price you paid for the product. On the other hand, if you suffered serious, life-changing injuries as the result of the defective product, you would be well advised to file a product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer seeking compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, permanent injuries (scarring and disfigurement), pain and suffering and emotional distress.

In order to prove such a case, you must show evidence that the product was defective; that you were injured while using the product as intended; that the product defect caused your injuries; and that you sustained damages as a result of the product defect. An experienced product defect lawyer can help you better understand your legal rights and options.
