FreshRealm Foods related to Kroger Walmart Listeria Outbreak

A deadly listeria outbreak has been linked to specific heat-and-eat chicken fettuccine alfredo products sold at Kroger and Walmart, prompting a recall after causing multiple deaths and a pregnancy loss.

Details of the Deadly Food Poisoning Outbreak

FreshRealm’s recalled chicken fettuccine alfredo products, sold at Kroger and Walmart, are the source of a listeria food poisoning outbreak. Since August of the previous year, the outbreak has affected at least 17 people across 13 states, resulting in three deaths and one pregnancy loss.

Products recalled include:

    • 32.8-ounce trays of Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine (best-by date June 27 or earlier)
    • 12.3-ounce trays of Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine and Broccoli (best-by date June 26 or earlier)
    • 12.5-ounce trays of Home Chef Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo (best-by date June 19 or earlier)

Contamination Source Remains Unclear

Samples of the same listeria strain were detected during a routine inspection in March; contaminated batches were destroyed, but the overall source of contamination remains unidentified. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is actively investigating, and more details are forthcoming, but the affected states and further specifics have not yet been disclosed.

Discard All Products Related to the Outbreak

We urge consumers to refrain from consuming these products, either discarding them or returning them to the point of purchase. Listeria infection poses serious health risks, especially for older adults, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant individuals or their newborns; symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.

Around 1,600 listeria cases occur in the U.S. annually, resulting in approximately 260 deaths. Federal agencies have announced efforts to revise prevention protocols in response to recent high-profile listeria outbreaks. if you have been seriously harmed by food poisoning related to this case, contact a California food poisoning lawyer.
