Bridgestone Recalls Tires for Air Loss and Tire Failure
Bridgestone Americas Inc. is recalling about 1,923 Firestone Destination LE3 and Bridgestone Ecopia H/L 422 Plus passenger and light truck tires in the U.S. and Canada because of a manufacturing issue that could potentially result in air loss and tire failure. According to a news report, the tires being recalled may have been manufactured with a small pinhole in the upper sidewall of the tire. In rare instances, the pinhole may penetrate the tire’s inner liner causing the gradual loss of air pressure.
Tires included in this recall may not comply with the performance requirements set forth by the U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard or FMVSS. If slow air loss is undetected or ignored, the continued air loss may increase the risk of a car accident or personal injury, Bridgestone said. There are no known accidents or injuries involving these recalled tires. The tires included in this recall were sold in the replacement market in the United States and Canada.
Bridgestone is notifying regulatory agencies in both countries, as required under the law. The company is also notifying known authorized retailers, dealers, distributors, company-owned stores and end-user consumers who may have bought the tires that are part of this recall.
Those who have these tires are urged to contact their authorized Bridgestone or Firestone tire dealer or company-owned service center to arrange for a verification. All affected tires will be replaced at no charge to consumers. You can find an authorized dealer by visiting bridgestonetire.com.
Product Liability Issues
Tire manufacturers have the same legal obligation as automakers and other product manufacturers to make products that are safe for consumers. Those who have been injured or have lost a loved one as the result of a defective tire can file a product liability claim against the tire maker or the auto manufacturer. In personal injury cases, damages may be sought for medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization and pain and suffering. Families of deceased victims can seek compensation to cover medical and funeral expenses, lost future wages and loss of love and companionship.
An experienced product defect lawyer will be able to assist injured victims and their families seek fair compensation for their injuries, damages and losses. If you have been involved in an accident that was caused by a defective tire, it is important that the tire and the vehicle be preserved unaltered so an expert can thoroughly examine them for defects and malfunctions.
