About 638,000 2015-2020 Chevy Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon SUVs, and 2014-2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks have been recalled for potential unintended braking problems. According to a report on Cars.com, all of these recalled vehicles are equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive.
Details of the Recall
The problem occurs when a wheel-speed sensor fails. If that happens, the electronic brake control module software may activate the driveline protection system, which could cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, pulling the vehicle to one side unexpectedly and increasing the risk of a crash.
Chevrolet and GM did not immediately say when owners would be notified. Owners can call Chevrolet at 800-630-2438, GMC at 800-462-8782, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236. Alternatively, they can also go to NHTSA’s website and punch in their vehicle identification number or VIN to learn more.
