Honda Recalls 200,000 Generators for Fire Danger

Honda recall

Honda has issued a product defect recall for about 200,000 of its portable generators due to the possibility of fires and burn injuries. According to a news report, the U.S. Consumers Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says the Honda EU2200i, EU220i Companion and EB2200i portable generators can leak gasoline from the fuel valve posing fire and burn hazards. So far, Honda has received 19 reports of fuel leaking from the fuel valve. However, no injuries have been reported.

Details of the Recall

The recalled portable generators were sold at authorized Honda Power Equipment dealers, Home Depot and other home improvement stories nationwide and online from February 2018 through February 2019 for about $1,100 to $1,300. The CPSC says consumers should stop using these recalled generators immediately and contact a local authorized Honda Power Equipment service dealer to schedule a free repair.

Honda is contacting all known purchasers of these generators directly. For more information, call American Honda toll-free at 1-888-888-3139 or visit powerequipment.honda.com.

While some equipment fires result from improper use, as product defect lawyers, we have handled a number of cases where defective products like heaters, grills, and generators have caused fires and serious burn injuries. While these types of fires may result in significant property damage, they can also cause major, disfiguring injuries. In some cases, these fires could also result in deaths.

Product Liability Issues

You may have a few options if a defective product has injured you. If your injuries were not severe, you may wish to join a class-action lawsuit, which helps you secure some compensation, such as the price you paid for the product. On the other hand, if you suffered serious, life-changing injuries, you would be well advised to file a product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer seeking compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, permanent injuries (scarring and disfigurement), pain and suffering and emotional distress.

To prove such a case, you must show evidence that the product was defective, that you were injured while using the product as intended, that the product defect caused your injuries, and that you sustained damages as a result of the product defect. An experienced product defect lawyer can help you better understand your legal rights and options.
