Some owners of Ford Explorers say deadly carbon monoxide fumes are still leaking into the cabin of their SUVs even after repairs done by the manufacturer. According to a News 4 Consumer investigation, while Ford has insisted that its vehicles are safe and tried to make consumers happy by announcing a free fix for more than 1 million Explorers, the complaints keep coming to Safercar.gov, which is the complaint database for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Repairs Aren’t Cutting It
One consumer from Maryland says the exhaust continues to seep into the cabin affecting his family’s health. Another Explorer owner in Mississippi says the repair has not resolved the problem and exhaust fumes still leak into the passenger cabin. The Center for Auto Safety, a consumer safety advocacy group, has called for the immediate recall of 1.3 million Ford Explorers, model years 2011 to 2017.
The organization has questioned whether the repair is being done correctly or if some other fix is needed to resolve the issue. NHTSA has issued a statement saying an investigation into the problem is ongoing and that they are conducting field inspections and monitoring Ford’s customer service campaigns for its effectiveness. Ford has issued a statement saying that its repairs are effective.
