Electric Fillet Knives Recalled for Injury Hazard

Product recall

Scott Fetzer Consumer Brands has issued a product defect recall for electric fillet knives sold at Walmart, Amazon, and Bass Pro shops because they could pose a laceration hazard.

According to a news report, the company issued this recall after getting 23 complaints from consumers that the trigger mechanism can get stuck in the “on” position. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) states that this could result in injuries even though none have been reported so far.

Details of the Fillet Knives Recall

The recalled American Angler Electric Fillet Knives were distributed to Wal-Mart, Bass Pro Shops, Amazon, and other retailers nationwide. The company has listed serial numbers of the recalled products on its website. The model number is located on the base of the knife’s handle while the serial number can be found on the packaging.

Scott Fetzer advises those who have this knife to stop using it right away, unplug the unit, cut the power cord and take photos of the destroyed device. Consumers are then advised to send photos of the faulty device and their mailing address to the company so Scott Fetzer can replace the defective device at no cost. News reports state there is no way to get a refund for these faulty devices at this time.

Scott Fetzer reportedly sold about 43,000 electric knives units between January 2019 and October 2021, according to CPSC. The electric knife in the recall was available in three models (1-blade, 2-blade, and 5-blade) and had a retail price of between $110 and $150. Product Liability Issues

Product defects may be caused by defective design or during the manufacturing process. A design flaw occurs way before the manufacturing process and has to do with an inherent problem with the product due to defective design. A manufacturing defect on the other hand occurs when the product is being made. This often occurs due to a lack of quality control or poor quality control.

Injured victims of defective products can seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, permanent injuries, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. In some cases involving defective products, consumers may also be able to band together and file a class-action lawsuit to hold the negligent manufacturer accountable.
