Supporting Talk about Curing Autism (TACA)
April 28, 2012
Our firm sponsored Kayle Bernal an employee at the law firm to participate in the Gladiator Rock 'N Run of Irvine in support of Talk About Curing Autism (TACA).
The course consisted of 17 obstacles throughout 7 kilometers. The course challenged all participants to conquer extreme obstacles and harsh terrain, then to celebrate their conquests with food and bands. The Gladiator Rock 'N Run is in support of TACA and raises money through fundraising.
In 2000 Talk About Curing Autism (TACA) was founded in a living room by Lisa Ackerman and a group of families that came together with one goal in mind, "To provide education, support, and information to parents to help their children diagnosed with autism be the very best they can be with hope of recovery". Today TACA's membership has grown to over 28,000 families, with nearly 500 new families joining each month.
TACA offers help for children with autism and their families through education, empowerment, support, and connecting families with resources. 95% of the services delivered are offered to families at no charge.
1 in every 88 children today is currently affected by autism, and it is established there are over 1 million people in the United States who are affected. This neurological and biological disorder usually affects children between 18 months and 5 years of age. Each individual is affected uniquely by autism but there are typically 5 areas affected: communication, social skills, behaviors, learning, and medical issues.
TACA provides support and education for families affected by autism through the following efforts: local chapter monthly meetings and coffee talks, parent support live chat, parent mentor programs, autism education events, family scholarship programs, and many more.
