Toyota C-HR SUVs Recalled for Possible Safety Systems Failure

Toyota C-HR SUVs
Toyota is recalling more than 36,000 C-HR SUVs because their forward collision warning (FCW) and automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems may not work. According to Consumer Reports, because of a manufacturing error, the radar sensors these systems rely on may not have been activated during production. As a result, the FCW and AEB may not work and the affected C-HR SUVs would not display any warning lights or messages telling the driver that the systems are not working.

Toyota C-HR SUVs Recalled

If this happens, the advanced safety features on C-HR SUVs may not prevent or lessen the severity of a crash as they are designed to do. Toyota has said it is not aware of any warranty claims or field reports in the United States relating to this recall, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). When the recall begins, Toyota dealerships will inspect and properly initiate the radar on affected vehicles. The repairs will be free of charge. The C-HR SUVs included in this recall were manufactured between June 12, 2020, and July 26, 2021. Although Toyota is recalling all the vehicles that may have been affected, the automaker estimates that only about 0.03% of these vehicles actually have a faulty radar. In these vehicles, the FCW or AEB systems, both of which depend on a radar sensor and camera, may not work to mitigate, prevent or warn drivers about a potential crash. Consumer Reports says the automaker learned about this problem while looking into a similar issue in Japan. Toyota will begin mailing recall notices to owners starting April 11. In the meantime, C-HR owners with questions are asked to contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

Auto Product Liability Issues

These safety systems in vehicles are in place in order to help drivers prevent crashes. When these important systems fail, there is an increased risk that vehicle occupants may suffer severe injuries. Automakers have a legal obligation to manufacture vehicles that are safe for consumers. If you or a loved one has been injured as the result of a defective vehicle or auto part, such as this issue with Toyota C-HR SUVs, you may be able to seek compensation for your injuries, damages, and losses by filing an auto product liability lawsuit. If you have lost a loved one due to a vehicle defect, you may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation as well. An experienced auto defect lawyer will be able to advise you regarding your legal rights and options.   Source: https://www.consumerreports.org/car-recalls-defects/toyota-c-hr-recalled-for-faulty-radar-a3282755994/
