A plumer was electrocuted when he came in contact with an energized range and a grounded object.
About 6,300 Blomberg and Summit brand freestanding electric ranges are being recalled due to shock and electrocution hazards. According to a News Channel 10 report, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Arçelik A.S. of Turkey and Beko US announced the recall after the death of a 52-year-old plumber in August who was electrocuted when he came in contact with an energized range and a grounded object. The electric ranges can become energized because a screw was not properly installed to secure the grounding strap during the manufacturing process.
The ranges involving in this recall (Blomberg BERU 24200 SS, BERU 24100 SS and Summit CLRE24 24-inch wide freestanding glass top electric ranges) were sold in stainless steel and black colors. The ranges were sold by AJ Madison, State Street Discount and other stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com from October 2012 through March 2017 for between $1,000 and $1,500.
They were manufactured by Arçelik A.S. in Turkey. Those who have these ranges at home are asked to stop using them immediately and avoid all direct contact with the product until the electricity supply is shut off. Consumers are asked to contact Arçelik A.S. toll-free at 877-271-1489 to schedule a free inspection and repair. More information is available at blombergappliances.us. b
Danger of Electric Shocks
It is important to understand the symptoms of electric shock. Some people who suffer an electric shock may show very few obvious symptoms. For example, some may be in cardiac arrest. Burns are usually most severe at points of contact with the electrical source. When a person is thrown clear of the electrical source by muscular contraction, they may even suffer traumatic injuries such as spinal injuries. Pain in a hand or foot may indicate a possible broken bone caused by violent muscle contraction.
Anyone who has suffered these types of injuries should get prompt medical attention, treatment and care. If your injuries were caused by a defective product, you may be able to file a product liability lawsuit seeking compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, pain and suffering and emotional distress. If you have lost a loved one as the result of a faulty product, you may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation as well. An experienced product defect attorney can help you better understand your legal rights and options.
