Nissan Expands Recall of Rogue Vehicles for Stalling Issues

Nissan Has No Fix for Auto Defect That Puts 400,000 Vehicles on the Road at Risk

Nissan is expanding a recall of its 2014 Rogue vehicles to fix a fuel pump problem that can prevent the engine from starting or cause it to stall as the vehicle is being driven. According to an Associated Press news report, this expanded recall affects 46,671 vehicles manufactured between July 25, 2013 and June 7, 2014, according to information the manufacturer reported to federal safety officials.

Nissan also stated that the affected fuel pumps have nickel plating that can flake and create loose particles that interfere with the pump’s operation. The problem is more likely to prevent the engine from starting. But it could also cause a crash if the engine stops or stalls when the vehicle is in motion. The company is notifying affected owners to bring their vehicles in to a Nissan dealer who will replace the faulty fuel pumps at no cost to consumers.

The Dangers of Vehicle Stalling

When a vehicle stops without warning when the driver is operating it, the consequences can be devastating. Such stalling could in itself result in a crash. The occupants of the stalling vehicle also risk serious injury or death if they are struck by other vehicles that are unable to stop in time to avoid a collision. Often times, when vehicles are stalled in the middle of the roadway, they are also at risk of getting hit by impaired, distracted or otherwise negligent drivers.

If your vehicle stalls in the middle of the roadway, here are a few steps you can take to remain safe:

• Get off the roadway as quickly and as safely as possible.
• Be sure to turn on your headlights so other vehicles can see you.
• Call for help immediately.
• Try to get someone to assist you.
