"NCIS: Los Angeles" Star Linda Hunt Injured in Hollywood Car Accident

Linda Hunt, who plays the role of Henrietta Lange on “NCIS: Los Angeles,” was injured in a Hollywood car accident. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the crash occurred on July 2 when the black BMW SUV that Hunt was driving collided with a car and another SUV while the 73-year-old actress was making a left turn.

An eyewitness said Hunt struck a sedan and then collided with a Honda SUV. Hunt was reportedly “visibly shaken” and was escorted by witnesses to a lawn chair on the sidewalk. Paramedics evaluated her at the scene and determined that she needed to be taken to the hospital. Her condition was not immediately known. The other drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

It is indeed fortunate that no one suffered catastrophic injuries in this car accident. We wish all of those injured the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Left-Turn Law

Based on this news report, this accident occurred at a street intersection when Hunt was making a left turn. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) a large percentage of street intersection accidents tend to occur when vehicles are making left turns or U-turns.

California Vehicle Code Section 21801 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to the approaching vehicles until the left turn or U-turn can be made with reasonable safety.”

Fault and Liability

In such cases, a thorough investigation is necessary to determine fault and liability. There are a number of questions that must be asked. Did the left-turning driver fail to yield the right of way to the oncoming vehicle? Was one of the drivers speeding at the time of the collision? Did impairment, distracted driving or some other form of negligence cause or contribute to the collision?

In car accident cases where any form of negligence is a factor, the at-fault driver can be held financially responsible for the injuries, damages and losses caused. Injured victims can seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization and pain and suffering. An experienced Los Angeles car accident lawyer can help injured victims and their families better understand their legal rights and options.
