Mazda CX-30 and Mazda3 Recalled for Brake Caliper Bolts May Loosen and Fall

Mazda is recalling 24,000 CX-30 SUVs and Mazda3 small cars from the 2020 model year to inspect and tighten bolts on the front brakes. According to Consumer Reports, if the front caliper mounting bolts come loose, brake performance could be reduced, and the bolt could interfere with wheel rotation. The caliper mounting bolts are the parts that hold the components, which squeeze the brake discs to slow the car.

Details of the Vehicle Recall

Mazda estimates that about 1% of vehicles in this group have this vehicle defect. However, all owners of these vehicles should take the problem seriously and have their SUV or car inspected as soon as possible. The recall is expected to begin on Aug. 11, 2020. The experts at Consumer Reports advise that people who own these vehicles should not wait for the recall notice given the nature of this serious problem due to the easy inspection process.

Mazda has said that the vehicle owners can visit the dealer for inspection and repair before getting a recall notification letter. The vehicles included in this recall include 2020 Mazda CX-30 and Mazda3 built between Oct. 22, 2019, and March 6, 2020. Mazda said in a statement that because of a manufacturing error, the front brake caliper mounting bolts may not have been properly tightened during bolt assembly. When there is a serious problem, drivers may hear “abnormal grinding or rattling” noises coming from the front.

Dealerships will inspect the front brakes and tighten the caliper bolts as necessary. If the bolts are missing, they will be replaced. All recall-related repairs will be done free of cost. Vehicle owners with questions or concerns may contact Mazda customer service at 800-222-5500. You can also find out if your car is included in this recall, by plugging your vehicle identification number or VIN to NHTSA’s website. So far, no injuries or car accidents appear to be linked to these vehicle-manufacturing defects.
