Lotus Foods Recalls Ramen Noodle Soup Cup for Fire and Burn Danger

Lotus Foods Recalls Ramen Noodle Soup Cup for Fire and Burn Danger

California-based Lotus Foods Inc. has issued a product defect recall for about 239,000 rice ramen noodle soup cups because they can catch on fire or burn consumers who try to cook the soup in a microwave. According to an alert posted by U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the problem is that the paper soup cup’s labeling incorrectly instructs consumers to use the microwave for cooking. This poses burn and fire hazards.

Burn Injury and Fires Reported

Lotus Foods has received 12 reports of the soup cups becoming extremely hot and/or catching fire during microwaving including one report of a burn injury. The recall involves Lotus Foods 2-ounce ramen noodle soups packaged in paper cups that are not microwave safe. The recalled soup cups contain organic brown rice noodles and were sold in three flavors – red miso rice ramen noodle cup, masala curry rice ramen noodle soup and tom yum rice noodle soup.

The recalled products were sold at Whole Foods Market and other stores nationwide, Safeway stores in Northern California and online at Amazon.com and Lotusfoods.com from August 2018 to November 2018 for about $2.50. Those who have these products at home are urged to stop using them and contact Lotus Foods for a coupon for a replacement product. For more information, call Lotus Foods at 1-866-330-4390 or visit lotusfoods.com.

Product Liability Issues

Product manufacturers have a responsibility to manufacture items that are safe for consumers. Products may have inherent defects that could occur during the manufacturing process or they might have a design flaw that might cause them to malfunction. Product may also be dangerous, as in this case, where the manufacturer provides incorrect instructions for use or when manufacturers fail to warn consumers about the dangers of using the products in a certain manner.

If you have suffered injuries or losses as a result of defective products, you may be able to seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress. In order to prove a product liability lawsuit, a plaintiff must show that the product was defective, that it was used as intended, that the product caused injuries and that the plaintiff suffered injuries and damages as a result of the defect. An experienced product defect lawyer will be able to fight for your rights and help hold the negligent product manufacturer accountable.
