Ford Motor Company is issuing an auto defect recall for almost 4,000 commercial versions of its F-Series full-size pickup truck because these vehicles could slip into reverse and increase the risk of a crash.
According to a Reuters news report, Ford is recalling 3,976 of F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty trucks from model year 2015 that are equipped with 6.2 liter gasoline or 6.7 liter diesel engines, and 6R140 transmissions.
Dangerous Transmission Problems
The automaker filed documents with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stating that a transmission control software error could cause the engine in these vehicles to engage “reverse” for about one and a half seconds when the driver believes that he or she is shifting from park to drive.
Ford says so far no accidents or injuries were reported in relation to the issue, which the automaker says was discovered on March 26 at the company’s Kentucky truck assembly plant.
When the recall begins, Ford will notify owners and dealers and update the software at no cost to consumers. The recall is expected to begin in early May.
Auto Product Liability Issues
Problems with the transmission can cause even the most experienced or careful driver to lose control of his or her vehicle.
Transmission issues can cause injuries not only to vehicle occupants, but also others on the roadway such as pedestrians and bicyclists.
Anyone who has been injured in a car accident would be well advised to preserve the vehicle in its current condition, unaltered, so that an expert can thoroughly examine it for evidence of defects, malfunctions and other issues.
Injured victims in such cases can file a product liability claim against the automaker seeking compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress.
Fighting against a large automaker or a large corporation, however, can prove to be an uphill task.
This is why it would be in the best interests of victims and their families to seek the counsel of a nationally renowned auto defect law firm that has the resources to perform independent investigations and the tenacity to stand up to these large corporations and their high-powered legal defense teams.
The best auto defect law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured victims and their families.
