Fiat Chrysler Recalls 365,000 Vehicles Due to Issue with Rear-View Cameras

Fiat Chrysler recall

Fiat Chrysler is recalling more than 365,000 vehicles because of issues with the rear-view cameras. According to news reports, the automaker is recalling vehicles mainly in North America because the rear-view camera image can stay illuminated longer than allowed. The recall covers certain Ram pickups and Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, and Jeep Renegade vans and SUVs from the 2019 and 2020 models years.

Details of the Recall

Also included are some 2020 Jeep Gladiator and Cherokee SUVs and 2019 Dodge Challenger muscle cars that all have 8.4-inch or 12-inch radio displays. The displays can stay illuminated for more than 10 seconds after the vehicles move out of reverse gear. This could potentially distract drivers.

However, Fiat Chrysler says it has not received reports of crashes or injuries. Vehicle owners will begin to receive notifications about this vehicle recall starting May 22nd. Dealers will update the software. Vehicles owners don’t have to go to the dealership to get this done, as it can also be done online.

Auto Product Liability Issues

One of the most obvious benefits of rear-view cameras is that they help avert injury-causing and potentially fatal back-over accidents by expanding the driver’s field of vision, particularly below the rear window or trunk level. Cameras also increase the driver’s ability to see beyond the width of a mirror’s image, helping to eliminate blind spots. While backup cameras do have these advantages and many more, when they do not work properly, they can pose dangers as well. In this particular case, they may be distracting to drivers when they stay on for longer than required.

If you or a loved one has been injured due to a car accident caused by a defective automobile, you may be able to seek compensation for the injuries, damages and losses caused.
