The teen daughter of “Fast and Furious” actor Paul Walker filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Porsche AG alleging design defects in the vehicle in which Walker was a passenger in when he was killed in a fiery crash nearly two years ago.
According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, 16-year-old Meadow Walker alleges that the German automaker took safety shortcuts while loading the Porsche Carrera GT with a 605-horsepower engine capable of hitting up to 205 mph and marketing it as a race car licensed for the road.
Authorities believe the car in which Walker was a passenger, driven by his friend Roger Rodas, was traveling at a speed higher than 90 mph before it slammed into trees and a concrete streetlight in Santa Clarita.
But, investigators said speed and not mechanical problems caused the crash. The lawsuit contends that the vehicle was traveling 63 to 71 mph when it suddenly went out of control.
Vehicle’s Crashworthiness in Question
The lawsuit alleges Porsche AG knew that the Carrera GT had a history of instability, but failed to add a control system to address that issue.
According to the complaint, the automaker also installed seatbelts in such a way that when the car fractured on impact, the shoulder belt anchor was yanked along with the rear engine compartment while the seatbelt anchor stayed in place.
This caused Walker to become severely injured and trapped in the vehicle, unable to escape from the vehicle that burst into flames, the complaint states.
Importance of Independent Investigations
Based on this report, the complaint filed by Walker’s daughter alleges that the Porsche in which Walker was a passenger had both manufacturing and design flaws, which caused the actor to suffer fatal injuries.
There are also differences in the determination of law enforcement officials and the teen’s attorney in terms of how fast the vehicle was traveling at the time of the crash.
This is why it becomes necessary for injured victims and families of deceased victims to retain the services of an experienced auto product liability lawyer who can conduct an independent investigation by utilizing renowned accident reconstruction experts.
Law enforcement agencies often lack the resources to investigate auto defect cases.
A nationally renowned auto defect law firm with access to competent and knowledgeable experts can help bring out the facts and secure justice and fair compensation for victims and their families.
