Companies Recall Furniture for Potential Injury Hazards

recall

Two separate product safety recalls were issued for pieces of furniture that could injure consumers. According to alerts issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the first recall involved CB2 Bordo and Bordo XL dining tables. About 1,120 of these tables were recalled after three people suffered injuries when the tables collapsed. The Chicago-based furniture store is warning consumers to stop using these concrete dining tables immediately.

Details of the Recalls

The problem is that the table legs can become unsteady when moved causing the table to collapse, which then poses an injury hazard. The company has received four reports of tables collapsing including three people who suffered injuries involving a laceration and a swollen leg/ankle.

The tables were sold at CB2 stores nationwide, online at CB2.com and through the CB2 catalog from August 2018 to June 2020 for about $1,500 or $2,300. CB2 is giving full refunds to consumers who are affected by the recall. For more information, call CB2 at 1-800-451-8217.

The second recall involves about 10,000 Bed Bath & Beyond SALT Lounge Chairs. Four people reportedly fell off these chairs and suffered injuries when the chairs broke. The CPSC alert states that the locking mechanism on the chair frame can disengage.

The problem poses a fall hazard. There have been 19 reports of the chairs breaking, including four reports of injuries from falls. SALT Lounge Chairs consist of a metal tube frame, a fabric seat cushion, and a locking mechanism on each side of the frame.

They were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond stores nationwide and online at bedbathandbeyond.com from April 2020 to August 2020 for about $40. The company is asking consumers to stop using the product and return it to any store location for a full refund or a store credit if the purchase price cannot be determined.

Product Liability Issues

Manufacturers have a legal obligation to ensure that their products work effectively and to conduct the proper safety tests before selling their products to consumers. Manufacturers of defective products can be held accountable for the damages they cause.

Injured victims can file what is known as a product liability claim seeking compensation for medical bills, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, pain and suffering, rehabilitation and other related damages.

An experienced product defect lawyer who has successfully handled product liability claims against large manufacturers on behalf of injured victims can help advise injured victims and their families.
