A man is in critical condition after being shoved into the street in front of an oncoming truck in a shocking unprovoked attack. The victim – a man wearing a suit, thought to be aged in his 60s – was walking down the street in Los Angeles when the daytime attack happened. As he walked along the sidewalk, a homeless man suddenly grabbed him and pushed him into the street, right in front of an approaching truck which slammed on its brakes to avoid running over him. The victim was left pinned under the front wheel of the truck for several seconds, writhing in extreme pain. Laila Ali, the daughter of boxing legend Muhammad Ali, struck an elderly male pedestrian with her car in a parking lot in Calabasas leaving him hospitalized with serious injuries. According to reports on TMZ and the Daily mail, the boxer turned TV star was driving in a store parking lot in Calabasas when the pedestrian accident occurred. Study Shows Children Are 10 Times More Vulnerable to Fatal Pedestrian Accidents on Halloween

Children are 10 times more likely to be killed by a car on Halloween compared to any other day during the year, according to a new study by researchers at the University of British Columbia. The Daily Mail reports that researchers found children between the ages of 4 and 8 are 10 times more likely to be hit by a vehicle on Halloween, and the most dangerous times for people to be struck were between 5 and 8 pm when most trick-or-treaters are out and about. Researchers also found that the risk of pedestrian accident fatalities spiked by 43 percent on Halloween compared to a week earlier or a week later.

A group of teenagers were seriously injured in a Garden Grove pedestrian accident after a vehicle struck them. According to a KTLA news report, the teens were crossing Westminster Boulevard at Kerry Street the evening of July 19 when a tan SUV crashed into them. Uber to Pay $1.9 Million 56 Workers Over Harassment and Discrimination Claims

The automated emergency braking system on an Uber robot test car was disabled when the vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian in Tempe, Arizona, back in March, federal investigators said. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the car’s sensor system was operating normally and a test driver was behind the wheel. But, investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board said neither the human driver nor the computer system braked the car before the collision. This preliminary finding by the NTSB raises serious questions and concerns about the state of driverless technology as more automakers and tech companies put more of these vehicles on our roadways.

Uber’s modified Volvo SUV detected a pedestrian crossing the street at the Tempe, Ariz., street intersection, but decided not to react immediately. According to an article in The Guardian, an investigative report released recently clearly shows that the Uber self-driving test car detected 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg, but didn’t stop. The car was traveling at 40 mph in self-driving mode the night of March 18 when it crashed into Herzberg who was pushing a bicycle across the road. A woman in Tempe, Arizona, has died after being struck by a driverless car operated by rideshare giant, Uber. According to a news report in The New York Times, this is the first pedestrian fatality reportedly caused by a self-driving car in the United States. Tempe police officials say the Uber vehicle was in autonomous mode with a human safety driver at the wheel when it struck the woman who was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk the night of March 18. Los Angeles County Has Most Pedestrian Accident Deaths in the Country

In spite of local cities’ goals to make their streets safer, the number of pedestrians dying in Southern California has increased for the last decade and the numbers only continue to go up, according to a new report by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA). According to a report by the Los Angeles Daily News, the number of people who were killed while walking on the streets or highways increased 27 percent from 2007 to 2016 nationwide.
