When we think of Orange County, we often think beautiful beaches, theme parks and high-end shopping malls. Poverty, hunger and homelessness are the not the first things that come to our minds. However, new data is showing that more than a quarter of Orange County’s youngest children are living in poverty, The Orange County Register reported. The report titled “The Geography of Child Poverty in California,” compiled by the San Francisco-based Public Policy Institute of California, gives a lot of information on variations within counties, much of it hasn’t been analyzed previously. …Read the rest »
Last month, a good friend’s 24-year-old daughter decided to do what most women her age would not even think about. Even if they did, they would shudder at the thought. Paige More, the daughter of local attorney Keith More, underwent a double mastectomy because she tested positive for the BRCA gene, which shows an increased risk for breast cancer. “She chose to beat breast cancer before it beat her,” says her father.
During most of my journey I have felt like I needed to be strong. That I couldn’t be afraid. You don’t want your friends or family to worry. You don’t want to worry. So you put on a brave face. I’m sure so many of you have done the same. But it’s ok to be scared sometimes. It’s ok to cry. Letting it out makes you feel so much better- trust me! If any of you start to feel scared or alone please reach out! You are never alone, we are in this together ???
The parents of 19-year-old Connor Eckhardt, who died after smoking just one hit of a synthetic drug which he bought from a Santa Ana smoke shop, are working hard to raise awareness about these highly dangerous “legal highs” that are taking young lives around the nation. Devin and Veronica Eckhardt went through what anyone would characterize as “every parent’s worst nightmare” and they are sharing their story publicly with the hopes that others can avoid a similar tragedy.
Connor fell into a coma, suffered irreparable brain damage and died at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach on July 16, 2014 after taking a single hit of a synthetic drug called spice. Connor’s father, Devin Eckhardt, says his son, like most people, thought this New Psychoactive Substance (NPS) was somehow safe and gave into a moment of peer pressure with a friend. But after that seemingly innocent decision, not feeling well, Connor went to “sleep it off” and never woke up. …Read the rest »

For the last three years, the Newport Beach personal injury law firm of Bisnar Chase has been participating in a turkey giveaway in partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank. We continued what has become our Thanksgiving tradition this year as well with 1,000 turkeys donated to the Food Bank.
Adopt a Pantry Jan 2013:
Bisnar Chase, Second Harvest Food Bank & Rock Church of Orange.
Our January food drive was a great success!
Teaming with Second Harvest Food Bank; Rock Church in Orange delivered 9000 pounds of food for those in need.
This program matches up volunteer groups with agencies. The agency promotes the 2 hour large scale distribution. Second Harvest brings a big truck full of food directly to the distribution location. The volunteer group(s) do all the work! People from all over Orange County come out for fresh vegetables, canned goods and dairy products.
Bisnar | Chase staff and their families along with Second Harvest and Rock Church spent the day delivering fresh produce and quality foods to people in need.
You can help too!
Second Harvest is always looking for food and money donations to help feed OC. Visit their website to learn how you or your company can help those in need.

The staff was on hand to give out the turkeys in Anaheim and another donation is set for this Saturday, Nov. 17th to supply 500 more to those in need.

Those participating in the run receive a “bib” with a chip that records their time, and get a “photo finish” of their crossing of home plate. Walkers enjoy a shorter route but still get to cross home plate and receive a photo of their accomplishment.
Children between six and 15 are welcome to join the walk portion, and anyone over 16 can enter the run. Individuals must commit to $1,000 in fundraising activity, while children can participate for $125 when accompanied by a fundraising adult.
The Red Sox Foundation is raising money to benefit the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital’s Home Base Program. This program provides care for veterans with traumatic brain injury, combat stress, or other casualties, and also provides support for family, clergy, and other caregivers.
Of course, you do not have to walk or run to donate to this exceptional event. If you cannot make it to Boston, you can still participate by donating through the Red Sox Foundation’s website.
Bisnar Chase hopes you will take advantage of the opportunity to help America’s veterans and their families this Memorial Day. For those who have given so much to our country, it is great to be able to give back a little.
