Thirteen people were killed and 31 others injured in a tour bus accident near Palm Springs early morning on October 23, 2016. According to a news report in The Desert Sun, the names of the victims have not yet been released, but officials said among the dead were 10 women and three men. The fatal crash occurred on the westbound side of the 10 Freeway at Indian Canyon Drive. California Highway Patrol officials said the bus carrying 43 passengers was on its way back from Red Earth Casino in Salton Sea Beach when it rear-ended a big rig. Twenty people suffered injuries in a rollover crash involving a tour bus in San Bernardino County the afternoon of May 22, 2016. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the shuttle bus carrying a church group rolled over on Highway 330 about two miles north of the 210 Freeway. Officials are looking into claims by eyewitnesses that a collision between a car and bus, which left seven injured, could have been caused by street racing. According to a KTLA news report, the crash occurred at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Western Avenue in the Vermont Square neighborhood. Witnesses say a black Mercedes-Benz was racing a white Dodge Challenger before both vehicles ran into a Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) bus. Six people were injured in a Newport Beach bus accident after an Orange County Transit authority bus crashed into a concrete planter in front of a building the night of March 27, 2016. According to a news report in The Daily Pilot, the bus was in an empty parking lot in the 700 block of Newport Center Drive when it went up an embankment and smashed into the planter.
Eight people were on the bus at the time and were able to get out of the bus after the crash. However, the driver and five others complained of pain and were transported to area hospitals. Their injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. It is indeed fortunate that the injuries in this crash were not critical. Two people were killed and at least six others were injured in a bus accident involving a Greyhound bus, which overturned on a slick Highway 101 in San Jose. According to a news report in the San Jose Mercury News, the fatal bus crash occurred the morning of January 19, 2016. The bus left Los Angeles the previous night and was heading to stops in downtown San Jose and San Francisco en route to Oakland. One of the passengers said the driver of the bus, who admitted to being fatigued, was dozing off in the moments leading up to the crash.
Officials have not yet released a cause for the accident, which they say, is under investigation. A witness who was trailing the bus before the crash told officials that about 200 feet before a flyover ramp, the bus changed into the carpool lane, lost traction, got airborne and landed on its right ride. Witnesses described people lying face down in the concrete. Most of the people on the bus were asleep at the time of the crash. Witnesses told officials that the driver also appeared to be nodding off the wheel and that he was weaving and jerking the wheel from sheer fatigue. Twenty passengers were on the bus at the time.

A 33-year-old passenger was killed and at least 30 others were injured in a tour bus accident in California early morning on November 23, 2014. According to a news report in The Sacramento Bee, the fatal crash occurred when a tour bus bound from Los Angeles to Washington State drifted off the Interstate 5 and crashed onto its roof north of Shasta Lake near Pollard Flat. One male passenger, 33, was killed. Three others have been listed in critical condition. The condition of others who were injured is not known.
