Amtrak Train Accident Kills Seven Injures Dozens

At least seven people were killed and more than 200 were injured, some critically, in an Amtrak train accident the night of May 12, 2015.

According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, the train headed to New York City from Washington derailed and crashed in Philadelphia.

The northbound train was carrying 238 passengers and five crew members when it derailed.

News reports say a number of passengers have suffered severe head and back injuries as a result of being thrown around. Eight victims were listed in critical condition.

Our heartfelt condolences go to all the families that have lost loved ones in this horrible train crash. We also wish the injured victims the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Ongoing Investigation

News reports state that investigators are focusing on the possibility that excessive speed was a factor in the derailment. The locomotive and all seven passenger cars of the train went off the tracks at a tight curve at Frankford Junction, north of Philadelphia city center.

Investigators have retrieved a black box data recorder from the train and it is currently being analyzed. Officials say it is too early to pin down the exact cause of the crash.

Investigators say they will look at a variety of factors including the condition of the track, the train signals, the mechanical condition of the train and if there was any human error.

Protecting Victims’ Rights

As Los Angeles Train Accident Attorneys who represent the rights of injured victims and their families, we understand the difficult road to recovery that lies ahead for those who were injured in this horrific crash.

Many of the injured would probably need to take time off work and incur significant medical and rehabilitation expenses in order to completely recover.

For some others, a complete recovery may be off the table.

Their injuries may be so catastrophic that they may never be able to return to the life they led prior to the accident.

It is important that injured victims or families of deceased victims retain the services of an experienced train accident attorney who will stay abreast of the official investigation, which could take several months, and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.

We also hope that all the victims of this crash and families that have lost loves ones get grief counseling and other support services they need during this very difficult time.
