The Independent reports that the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) has ruled that evidence for the long-term efficacy of treating pelvic organ prolapse with transvaginal mesh implants is “inadequate in quality and quantity.” This decision mirrors Australia’s recent decision to ban mesh implants specifically to treat prolapse declaring them too risky and riddled with horrific side effects. …Read the rest »

A faulty Takata airbag inflator has been linked to one more death, this time in Baton Rouge, La. According to a report in the Detroit Free Press, the unidentified person is the 20th death worldwide attributed to the faulty inflators, which can explode with too much force and send shrapnel flying into the vehicle compartment. A faulty water heater that spewed carbon monoxide sent three people to the hospital after they became ill from inhaling the potentially lethal gas. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the incident occurred early morning on Dec. 19. Paramedics responded to a home in the 31000 block of Avenida de la Vista after a 64-year-old woman reported feeling nauseous and lethargic, fire officials said. According to news reports, the Independence of the Seas, which had visited Haiti and Jamaica, returned to Port Everglades Florida over the weekend, carrying a lot of sick people. This is apparently the second time in less than a month that guests had become sick on one of the Royal Caribbean’s ship.
