Stockton Car Accident Lawyer Discusses 12 Most Dangerous Accident Sites
The 12 most crash-prone stretches of road in Stockton were identified in a recent state report. Known as the 5 Percent Report and released every year to raise awareness of California's safety needs and challenges, Stockton was shown to have its share of deadly intersections. Car accident statistics gleaned from California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) were used to identify problem streets.
Local roads were divided into half-mile segments, and those that recorded three or more fatal or severe injury crashes for one year were: N. Pershing Ave. and W. March Lane, N. Wilson Way and Roosevelt St., N. Wilson Way and Mistletoe Ave., Rosemarie Lane and Manchester Ave., Tracy Blvd. and Clifton Court Rd., W. 11th St. and S Lammers Rd., W. March Lane and Claremont Ave., E. Hammer Lane and Lan Ark Dr., E. Hazelton Ave. and S. Laurel St., E. Main St. and Sharon Ave., N. Airport Way and E. Fremont St., and N. El Dorado St. and Hammer Lane.
"Stockton's statistically unsafe roads must be addressed through increased traffic enforcement efforts, driver education and community awareness programs," noted the famed car accident lawyer John Bisnar. "There is no reason why these stretches of roadway need claim so many lives and cause so many injuries."
In 2006, SWITRS reported that there were 29 car accident fatalities and 1,777 traffic accident related injuries in Stockton. Alcohol related collisions accounted for 13 fatalities and 134 injuries. Motorcyclists also paid a heavy toll on Stockton roads with five fatalities and 69 injuries.
In July 2004, Stockton decided to fight back, launching its Red-Light Photo Enforcement Program. Using cameras at 13 intersections, the program provides 24-hour automated enforcement for the city streets.
"A U.S. Department of Transportation study revealed that these camera programs can reduce red-light violations by as much as 60 percent," said John Bisnar of the BISNAR | CHASE car accident law firm. "Drivers who run a red light cause some of the worst auto accidents, maiming and killing themselves and other motorists at an alarming rate."
