Stanton's Most Dangerous Intersections
Stanton is not particularly known for its dangerous intersections, but a recent report distributed by the Orange County Transportation Authority begs to differ. Stanton has been listed three times on a report of the busiest intersections in Orange County, and for good reason. There is a high rate of traffic flowing through Stanton regularly, and a high rate of traffic leads to a high number of traffic accidents.
According to California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there was one fatality, and 122 injuries as a result of Stanton car accidents in 2008. In Orange County as a whole, 152 fatalities and 13,414 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in the same year.
This doesn't mean that heading out to Stanton is a death wish, but it would be wise to take special precautions when approaching the following intersections.
Beach Boulevard and Chapman Avenue
This intersection has an average of 92,400 vehicles per day.
Beach Boulevard and Katella Avenue
In 2009, a man suffered catastrophic injuries and another suffered several broken bones after they were hit by a car on Beach Boulevard in Stanton, California. According to a news report in the Orange County Register, the two men were crossing Beach after leaving a local bar. They were struck by a Cadillac sedan that was traveling northbound on Beach near Katella Avenue, Stanton police officials said. Both men were reportedly outside of the crosswalk when they were hit.
Many questions come to mind when reflecting on this loss. How fast was the driver of the Cadillac going? Was she traveling within the speed limit? Was she distracted, under the influence or driving recklessly? Did she have sufficient time to stop in order to avoid a collision? It is unknown whether or not the driver was at fault, but if she were, then she could be held liable for the victim's injuries.Average of 89,600 vehicles per day.
Beach Boulevard and Lampson Avenue
In 2005, a woman died after being struck by a car at this very intersection. She was crossing Beach Boulevard about 300 feet from the Lampson Avenue intersection when she was hit by a car traveling north.
According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities, but two injuries involving pedestrian accidents in Stanton. In Orange County as a whole, 41 fatalities and 726 injuries were reported as a result of pedestrian accidents in 2007. This intersection has an average of 82,800 vehicles per day.
