A nursing home must do these three things:

Provide good care for the residents in an environment that will promote enhancement (or at least maintenance) of their quality of life.
Create a written plan for each resident that describes the medical, nursing and psycho-social needs of the resident, with the plan to be reviewed and updated periodically.
For each resident, conduct a comprehensive assessment describing his/her capacity to perform daily functions as well as any significant impairments the resident may have.
