Reward Offered for Information Leading to Arrest and Conviction of Hit-and-Run Driver in Fatal Los Angeles Pedestrian Accident

A reward of $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and felony conviction of a hit-and-run driver involved in a bizarre Los Angeles pedestrian accident on January 19. Anonymous tips can be made via the Hit-and-Run Reward Program website (http://www.HitandRunReward.com) or through the Hit-and-Run Reward hotline at 800-6-Hit-N-Run (800-644-8678).

Los Angeles (PRWEB) January 27, 2011

According to the Los Angeles Times report, the man who was killed in this incident was first hit by a gray or white minivan that fled the scene near the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and West 120th Street just south of the 105 Freeway, and then hit a second time -- seconds later -- by a driver who fled the scene as well. A woman who witnessed the accident and ran across the street to render aid was also struck by a car. That driver stopped but was subsequently assaulted and robbed by a group of angry bystanders.

The driver of the second car has since been located and is under investigation. However, the driver of the gray or white minivan that first hit the pedestrian remains at-large.

Tips made via the Hit-and-Run Reward Program are facilitated in California and across the U.S. by WeTip, an anonymous crime reporting service and law enforcement advocacy non-profit and funded by participating U.S. personal injury attorneys. The program is designed to wipe out hit-and-run offenses by offering a $1,000 reward to witnesses who care enough to report these crimes. All tips remain anonymous and are treated with strict confidentiality.

John Bisnar, founder of Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP (http://www.BestAttorney.com) California personal injury attorneys and creator of the Hit-and-Run Reward Program, says the recent Los Angeles hit-and-run accident highlights the importance of reporting hit-and-run drivers.

"Like any hit-and-run traffic collision, the behavior of these two drivers is not only illegal -- it's morally reprehensible," said Bisnar. "Apart from the unlikely chance these two drivers will actually turn in themselves, the best way to bring them to justice and get them off our streets is through information provided by witnesses. That's why it's extremely important for witnesses to report whatever information they have."

Consider the following statistics:

In a 2008 National Pedestrian Crash Report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), statistics show that between 1997 and 2006:

Approximately one in five (18 percent) of all pedestrian deaths were the result of hit-and-run car accidents.

In 2006 alone, close to 950 pedestrians across the U.S. were killed as a result of a hit-and-run crash.

According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were two fatalities and 49 injuries involving pedestrian accidents in Hawthorne.

According to that same report, in Los Angeles as a whole, 214 people died and 4,985 were injured in pedestrian accidents that same year.

"All of the personal injury law firms involved in this program are working to make our roadways safer by getting hit-and-run offenders off our streets, making it more difficult to get away with these crimes, and giving witnesses a simple and safe way to report this information," said Bisnar. "This program encourages drivers to do the right thing by stopping and rendering aid to a pedestrian versus fleeing the scene of an accident. Being involved in a traffic accident is usually just very unfortunate event and not a crime. Fleeing the scene of a traffic accident is a crime."
