Orange County Bicycle Accident Attorneys
Serving Orange County since 1978
Bicycle accidents are rampant, and with a growing population, more crowded roads, and an emphasis on "green" transportation, they're here to stay. Bicycle accidents are fairly common. There are thousands of bicycles on the road, and interactions with cars, trucks, motorcycles, and even pedestrians is inevitable
In 2007 alone 44,000 people were injured in bicycle accidents in Orange County. The average age of those injured in the accidents was 30 years old and alcohol was determined to be a factor in more than one-third of the fatalities reported.
Solutions Not Doing Everything They Could
Things like Sharrows Programs and adding bicycle lanes on city streets are a terrific way to mitigate bicycle accidents and injuries. The problem is, the process is painfully slow. The nomination of the projects, the approval process, and the actual implementation and construction of the extra lanes can take years, even decades.
Other solutions Orange County cities are trying is to add a significant amount of road signage to direct cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists. Maps placed along bike trails will also help cyclist navigate their route and stay on the safest path.
The fact is there are still a lot of changes and improvements that need to be implemented in Orange County's infrastructure. Bicycle clubs and organizations all over the county have been preaching for change, and hopefully lawmakers and city officials will listen.
