Inglewood Car Accidents Above Average

As many Inglewood car accident attorneys will tell you, the city's population has grown to well over 130,000, and the city's car accident has swelled as well. In 2000, The State Office of Traffic Safety rated Inglewood third for hit-and-run collisions and fifth for night-time car collisions in cities with a population of 100,000 to 150,000. The city also came in first in auto accident fatalities and injured pedestrians under the age of 15. And it took the number two slot for all types of pedestrian fatalities and injuries. These alarming statistics helped put Inglewood 11th out of 45 in overall car collisions, according to the Office of Traffic Safety.

"A city the size of Inglewood should not be burdened with so many tragic car accidents," said John Bisnar. "Increased traffic enforcement and driver safety programs should be employed to stem these alarming statistics."

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported 17 car accident fatalities in Inglewood between 2001 and 2003. In 2006, the CHP reported six car accident deaths and 563 traffic accident-related injuries in Inglewood. In addition, two motorcyclists lost their lives and 22 were injured. Two pedestrians were killed and 65 were injured in Inglewood car collisions. DUI accidents resulted in two deaths and 32 injuries. For Los Angeles overall, traffic collision data reported by the Los Angeles Department of Transportation revealed that 50,317 auto collisions occurred recently in a single year.

To reduce the number of car accidents, Inglewood installed red-light cameras at fifteen of its most troublesome intersections. In addition, to raise motorists' awareness as they approached city stop signs, Inglewood proposed an on-demand visual queue by adding multiple high-intensity LED light modules into its regular stop signs. Activated by an approaching vehicle at a pre-determined distance from the stop sign, the light modules significantly improve a motorist's ability to see the sign and stop safely.
