Chili Cook-off for the Boys & Girls Club

Our staff here at Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP has always taken pleasure in helping others, and the mere mention of a chili cook-off this past summer was music to our ears. Our chili chef extraordinaire Sandy Smith whipped up a gargantuan batch of her famous chili at the 5th Annual High-Times Wine Cellars Charity Chili Cook-off to Benefit Boys & Girls Club of the Harbor Area.

Many of our other staff members participated and helped out at the pirate-themed booth during the day. We were thrilled to be competing and helping raise money for the charity. The bar was set high last year with the event raising an outstanding $22,536.99. This year the goal was to surpass last year's raised funds by encouraging more people to attend.

About The Boys & Girls Club

For over 60 years, the Boys & Girls Club of the Harbor Area has provided quality youth development services to Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Irvine, and the surrounding areas. Each day, their facilities open to the youth of their communities, prepared to guide and inspire each and every individual who walks through their doors. Their Mission is "To empower all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens."

Finding causes that are near and dear to the hearts of our staff is a constant goal we try to achieve. By taking on these endeavors we're not only helping the community that has been so good to us over the years, but we're fulfilling a need within ourselves to become better individuals and as a staff.

If you'd like to join us in one of the many charity events we're a part of, please give us a call at 1-800-561-4887 to lend a hand. With the country in dire need of helpful souls, your goodwill will most certainly go rewarded.

Turkey Giveaway for OC Residents

Once again our staff here at Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP donated their time to a noble cause. Several members of our staff handed out 750 Thanksgiving turkeys recently to people in need through their affiliation with Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. We've worked with Second Harvest several times this year - doing food banks and holiday food giveaways - and in the future we'll be partnering up every other month to feed the hungry in Orange County.

It's easy to forget that there are an estimated 615,000 individuals who struggle with hunger in Orange County and of these people, 77% of them do not qualify for government food assistance programs and rely on food banks for meals.

About Second Harvest Food Bank

Nearly 95 cents of every dollar donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank goes directly to purchasing and donating groceries to the needy. Hundreds of thousands of pounds of food are given away every year and millions of families have received aide from this wonderful and decorated charity.

"Our firm sponsored a mobile food bank earlier this year in conjunction with Second Harvest," said John Bisnar, founder of Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP who also assisted in distributing food to local individuals and families. "We saw the families in Orange County who don't have enough food. It was overwhelming. We simply wanted to help. We don't want people to go hungry."

This holiday season, and ones in the future for that matter, we will continue to donate our time and effort to help those in need. We've been blessed to be here in the community since 1978 and we've made a pledge to give back as much as possible. We are thankful for what we have, we do not take it for granted, and our leaders here have made it their mission to feed the hungry.

If you'd like to help us out during a future event, please call us at 1-800-561-4887. With so many in need, we can always use an extra set of hands.

San Bernardino Lawyers Assist Latino Education

January 28, 2011

CSUSB Latino Financial AssistanceAccording to the 2010 US Census, 37.6% of California's population is Hispanics or Latinos. A significant number of these citizens are living below the poverty line and are still struggling to provide financial means and environments that provide opportunities for success in United States education systems. Many Latino families still fall short as they try to provide their children with the opportunities to pursue a college degree, but a renewed effort by school systems to create assistance programs has renewed hope amongst some Latinos who felt that higher education was out of their reach.

The financial burdens and racial setbacks that befall many Hispanic households have not gone unnoticed by California State University San Bernardino (CSUS). CSUS has created programs specifically designed to help Latinos succeed in education and life in general and have continue to put forth resources and effort throughout their community.

Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP Spreads Holliday Cheer - Adopt A Family 2011

Attorneys Who Give BackOrange County personal injury attorneys don't have the best reputations; a handful of frivolous lawsuits have shed an unfavorable light on a profession that we take great pride in. Head partners, John Bisnar and Brian Chase, care deeply about their clients and have instilled that same passion into everyone on our team. Every year our entire staff participates in several community outreach programs in an attempt to help give back to the community that has built us from the ground up. This year we intend to continue one of our favorite Christmas traditions and take advantage of new and exciting opportunities to expand our program.

Adopt A Family

The Adopt A Family program is designed to help support those who simply do not have the means during these harsh economic times. Not every parent has the ability to give their children presents, but everyone deserves a gift on Christmas. As one of the top personal injury law firms in the nation, we have an obligation to share the tremendous amount of success that we've had, and we feel that the Share Our Selves (SOS) Adopt A Family Program is exactly what we were looking for.

Once needy families are identified and recommended by Costa Mesa and Santa Ana schools, volunteers sign up and agree to provide at least two new gifts for every child and food or grocery gift cards so families can have a complete dinner. Providing at least two new gifts for each child in a family and making sure they get a hearty Christmas dinner is what makes Adopt A Family a real blessing.

Helping Others Beyond the Courtroom - January 2011

When Nicole Michau, our Supervising Litigation Paralegal, learned of our client's financial hardships, she rallied other Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP staff members to solicit food and monetary donations, to help our client feed her family.

At Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP, we've made it our mission to fight tirelessly for our clients, to get the money they deserve after a serious injury or wrongful death. The legal process, however, takes time, and until a settlement is reached or a judgment is awarded, many of our clients struggle with the financial hardships that accompany a debilitating injury or the loss of a loved one.

Such is the case with one of our clients who was severely injured in the summer of 2009. In the midst of the logistics involved with her case (which is pending trial), and the medical treatments she needs to rehabilitate her injuries, she and her husband found themselves unemployed and struggling to maintain a household while supporting their 17-year-old daughter who lives at home.

"It's hard for me to imagine suffering from the pain and rehabilitation of a serious injury, while worrying about how you're going to support your family in the process," said Nicole. "It broke my heart to know she'd already been through so much, and yet, she's worrying about how to make ends meet. I had to do something."

And do something she did.

So far, between the money raised and the matching donations made by our executive team, we've been able to give this family of three enough money for 2-3 months of groceries. It's this giving spirit that motivates us, that drives us, to be better and do better -- not only for our clients but for members of the community too.

We're extremely blessed to have Nicole on our team and we're proud of her efforts -- in the office and beyond.

Adopt A Family Keeps the Holiday Spirit Alive - December 2010

The Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP once again made adopting needy families an important annual tradition with the the Share Our Selves (SOS) Adopt A Family Program. Since its inception, Adopt A Family Program has been connecting caring community members who provide gifts and food to struggling Orange County families during the holidays. This year marks the 41st year of the SOS Adopt A Family program, serving more than 1,180 families with children this season.

Without the Adopt A Family program providing tangible gifts for those in need, impoverished local families would face a bleak Christmas. The program is especially important this year for Orange County families who are struggling in the midst of a tough economy.

Once needy families are identified and recommended by Costa Mesa and Santa Ana schools, volunteers sign up and agree to provide at least two new gifts for every child and food or grocery gift cards for a complete dinner for a family, or provide at least two new gifts for each child in a family.

Elizabeth Evans of SOS says, "These gifts will be distributed to SOS clients from now until Christmas. The Adopt A Family Program is a true volunteer effort and SOS is extremely grateful to all those who volunteer their time and resources to make the holiday season brighter for those in our community who are struggling."

Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP was very pleased to participate again this year, by providing Christmas gifts and food to two different families of four.

Getting Casual for a Good Cause - October 8, 2010

Danielle Olson, Executive Assistant at Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP, collected $5 donations from Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP employees, in honor of the Lee National Denim Day, one of the largest single-day nationwide fundraisers for breast cancer. The donations will go to support Lee Jeans' research efforts to detect and treat breast cancer, and to provide support and education programs for breast cancer victims across the U.S.

Friday, October 8, 2010, as part of the official Lee National Denim Day, Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP employees wore jeans to work, to show their support of breast cancer detection, treatment, education and awareness.

Lee National Denim Day began in 1996 after an everyday conversation among several Lee Jeans' employees revealed they had all been touched by breast cancer in one way or another. In its first year, Lee Jeans set a goal of raising $1 million by inviting employees at businesses across the nation to wear jeans to work on Denim Day in exchange for a $5 contribution in the fight against breast cancer. In all, more than $1.4 million was raised that year, sparking what would become one of the largest single-day breast cancer fundraisers in the country.

$25,000 in Scholarships for Viral Video Contest Winners

The American Lawyer Academy (ALA) sponsored its first annual Viral Video Scholarship Contest. The scholarship program is dedicated to the thousands of people who are injured or killed in motor vehicle collisions each year in the United States. The program has been created as a community service project to help educate the public on safe driving practices. It will award scholarships to the film students or video production enthusiasts who create the best viral videos promoting safe driving. High school and college students nationwide are encouraged to submit their video creations.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2008 there were 37,261 people killed in motor vehicle crashes. The American Automobile Association (AAA) says that 25 to 50 percent of all accidents are caused by a distracted driver such as someone who is talking on a cell phone, texting while driving, eating, looking at scenery, reading books or maps, adjusting the car's music system, or talking to passengers. Similarly, it has been estimated that alcohol-related crashes may represent 50 percent or more of all fatal collisions. Other common causes of accidents are driver fatigue, speeding, failing to follow the rules of the road and aggressive driving.

The American Lawyer Academy Viral Video Scholarship Contest offers $25,000 in scholarships toward college tuition at a recognized academic institution. Students that want to use their talents and creativity to help spread a positive safe driving message that captures the imagination of the YouTube generation can visit www.ViralVideoScholarshipContest.com to get video submission guidelines, links to information about the regional contest rules, and more. Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP is sponsoring the Western Regional Contest at www.bestattorney.com/viral-video-scholarship-contest-western-region.html.

2010 Surf Fest and Chili Cook-Off - July 17, 2010

Our very own Sandra Smith, a Litigation Paralegal, is an American Legion member and stanch supporter. As a part of her active support for the American Legion's mission, she again entered the American Legion's summer fundraising event, the Rendezvous Surf Fest and chili cook-off and Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP sponsored her.

The Rendezvous Surf Fest was held Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 291, in Newport Beach, California.

The event, co-hosted by the American Legion and KOCI radio, is designed to raise funds to support U.S. troops, with 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to the troops and their family members who need the help most.

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 291 is a non-profit organization with a long history of raising money and distributing funds to military charities. The non-profit supports the Child Welfare Foundation that helps children of veterans find homes, jobs, food and clothing, and also contributes to the Veterans Administration Group located in Long Beach, California. It also distributes funds to groups within the Marine Corps Base of Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California, with approximately 50 marines from the base's recon unit attending this year's Surf Fest event.

In addition to the Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP sponsorship, our team, Sandra and her co-employee assistants, competed in the event's chili cook-off, coming off their third place finish last year. We also raffled off an exciting grand prize to one lucky winner in attendance.

Popular surf bands The Jan & Dean Show, The Surftones, The Fabulous Nomads, The Surfaris and The Chanteys entertained, with additional bands performing on the outside stage. What's more, guests enjoyed a classic surf car show, raffles and prizes, and the tastes of Newport's favorite restaurants hosting chili and BBQ booths.

Mission Viejo Mom Finished 545-Mile AIDS Bicycle Fundraiser - June 6-12, 2010

Loree Glenn, a Mission Viejo wife and mother of two, participated in the 545-Mile AIDS/Lifecycle event to help end the pandemic and human suffering caused by AIDS. This is the third year she has successfully completed the trek and the third year we've sponsored her efforts.

This year's trek began in San Francisco on June 6 and ended in Los Angeles on June 12, with thousands of riders joining the cause as they pushed their way over hundreds of miles of terrain, including California's scenic Pacific Coast Highway 1.

The trek raises funds to support the HIV/AIDS services of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, as well as to increase awareness and knowledge about HIV/AIDS among the ride's participants, donors and the general public.

With the support of her husband, Kevin, and two teenage sons, Loree made this trek for the third time, an experience she views as an extremely personal, mental and physical challenge to raise money for a great cause.

Not only are we in awe of Loree's dedication to this cause, we're extremely proud to have been her corporate sponsor. In all, Loree raised $3,825 this year, far above her overall fundraising goal of $3,000.

Barbecue Raises Money for Critically Ill Kids - June 12, 2010

On Saturday, June 12, the Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP staff was on-hand to celebrate Orange County's premier barbecue charity event, designed to help critically ill children and their families. "Que'n for Kids" was a huge success and we'd like to thank Kristie's Foundation for organizing it every year. Kristie's Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing assistance, support and cherished moments to critically ill children and their families.

If you didn't have a chance to attend, you won't want to miss this year's event! There were plenty of activities, including a car show, a rib eating contest and the "Mr. BBQ Pageant." Be sure to check out the profiles of the Mr. BBQ contestants. They made us laugh and we think they'll make you laugh too.

To learn more about Kristie's Foundation and its annual Orange County barbecue fundraiser, visit the Orange County's BBQ Festival website. We were proud to be on-hand to help such an important charity and we look forward to this year's event!

Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP Walks Like MADD - May 8, 2010

Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP was a corporate patron and water sponsor of Walk Like MADD 2010 on Saturday, May 8, 2010 in Huntington Beach, California. The event is designed to help Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) support programs for both victims of drunk driving as well as programs to help prevent drunk driving and underage drinking in Orange County.

As part of its sponsorship, members of the Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP staff were actively involved in raising money for the event. Additionally, the firm's team members were on-hand to participate in the 5K walk, to supply water to participants and to educate people about their legal rights as drunk driving crash victims.

"We're proud to be a sponsor of such an important event and a supporter of MADD, an organization that works tirelessly to prevent drunk driving and underage drinking," said John Bisnar, founder of Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP. "The statistics involving drunk driving crashes are staggering. That's why we felt it was so important to get involved with the Walk Like MADD 2010 event, to give something back to our community and to educate victims of drunk driving crashes, to help them seek justice against offenders and to recover monetary damages for injuries and wrongful death."

In addition to its participation at the event, Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP had fun activities at its booth, including a dunk tank and face painting for children. What's more, the firm shared its event space with WeTip, a leading anonymous crime reporting service and law enforcement advocacy non-profit organization, which has recently partnered with Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP to launch the Hit-and-Run Reward Program (HitandRunReward.com), an anonymous reporting system and cash rewards program for witnesses who care enough to report hit-and-run offenders.

Hit-and-Run Reward Program - March 30, 2010

Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP launched the Hit-and-Run Reward Program in conjunction with WeTip, a leading anonymous crime reporting service and law enforcement advocacy non-profit organization. The program's goal is to wipe out California hit-and-run offenses by offering an anonymous reporting system and cash rewards to witnesses who care enough to report these crimes.

With this new program, Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP will fund hit-and-run rewards of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and felony conviction of hit-and-run drivers who have caused serious personal injury by way of anonymous tips provided through the Hit-and-Run Reward website, HitandRunReward.com, or through the Hit-and-Run Reward hotline at 800-6-Hit-N-Run (800-644-8678).

Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP Sponsors Summer Internship Program -- SELF Program

Administered by the Orange County Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators (OC-ALA), in collaboration with the Orange County Bar Foundation, this program provides low-income teens paid summer internships at law firms and law-related agencies. Like many of our fellow law firms involved in the program, we'll employ one or more high school students for 30 hours each week for eight weeks, from June 22nd through August 14th, paying each a total of $2,000 during the entire internship.

It's an extremely valuable and unique program and we hope this experience with our law firm will help our interns learn what life is like at a small, but upscale personal injury law firm. We also hope that our interns will learn what it means to be a team player with a winning attitude and be inspired to succeed in life, helping others in the process. Shown at left in the photo is our 2010 Intern, Anna Colin, at her celebration dinner.

Rendezvous Surf Fest and Chili Cook-Off - July 18, 2009

The Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP was a Platinum-level Sponsor for this year's Rendezvous Surf Fest -- a surf bands, surf cars and chili cook-off event benefiting our U.S. troops. The hugely popular Surf Fest was presented by the Sons of the American Legion Post 291.

"Surf Fest is the Legion's largest annual fundraiser with a long-standing reputation for getting the funds directly to our U.S. troops and their families," said Orange County personal injury attorney John Bisnar. "We wanted to support this effort in a big way."

At the end of the Chili Cook-Off, our own Sandy Smith, a litigation paralegal with Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP, walked away with the third place trophy!

Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Fundraiser - June 2009

We sponsored Yulee Schafer in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Chicago, IL. Our staff members donated toward her $1,800 goal giving her entry into the two-day, 39-mile event. The money raised helps pay for medical treatment for underinsured men and women and supports breast cancer research.

In her second straight year participating in the Avon walk, Yulee walked as a member of the team the "Yes Mamms." She participated because of the history of cancer in her family. "I have several family members and friends who have been diagnosed with breast cancer," said Yulee. "I also have two young daughters and I don't want them to ever face it. I just want breast cancer to be a chapter in our medical history like the plague."

Yulee is an employee at the sister law firm of Mike Schafer Law in Louisville, Kentucky. We're very proud to know her. She inspires us all to do something about the problems we face in life.

Mother of Two Teens Finishes Second 7-Day AIDS/LifeCycle Trek - May 2009

With the support of her husband and two teen sons, full-time Mission Viejo mom, Loree Glenn decided to repeat last year's grueling 7-day AIDS/LifeCycle bike trek from San Francisco to Los Angeles. The ride began May 31st and concluded June 6th 2009. The California personal injury attorneys of Bisnar | Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP contributed to last year's event and were Loree's corporate sponsor for this year's ride.

Loree was motivated and deeply dedicated to ride this race again. It was an extremely personal, mental and physical challenge -- to leave her comfortable family life behind for a week and push the limits of her endurance. "We all viewed her participation in the first ride as a life-changing event for Loree," said husband Kevin who took over the busy chores of running the household during his wife's 7-day ride.
