Chino Hills Car Accidents Blamed on Heavy Traffic and Dangerous Driving

With a growing population of nearly 80,000 people, Chino Hills in San Bernardino County, California was once ranked as America's 13th safest city by the FBI. While noteworthy, this distinction is overshadowed by the city's heavy traffic during rush-hour commutes. And as many Chino Hills car accident attorneys will admit, heavy traffic and dangerous driving often lead to car crashes.

A review of statistics from 2001 to 2003 revealed that Chino Hills had eight fatal car collisions, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This averages out to 1.2 fatal Chino Hills car crashes per 10,000 people. While this falls below the national norm, there is always room for improvement.

In 2006, the California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) revealed that 13 people lost their lives and 250 were injured in Chino Hills car collisions. Motorcycle crashes killed one and injured seven. Pedestrian accidents resulted in four deaths and seven injuries.

Also in 2006, drunk drivers accounted for five fatalities and 33 crash injuries. Statewide DUI crash statistics were even more sobering: 1,597 people lost their lives and 31,099 were injured--compared to 1,574 fatalities and 30,810 injuries in 2005.

Chino Hills' Carbon Canyon Road has seen many car accidents. In one car crash, two vehicles collided, resulting in one death. Several years earlier, two unidentified men were killed after their Camaro lost control while rounding a curve on Carbon Canyon Road south of Chino Hills Parkway. The car--speeding at over 100 mph--hit a group of trees and burst into flames. Police discovered the severely burned remains of two men who had to be identified by their dental records.

Drunks and distractions have caused a number of car accidents in Chino Hills. In 2007, a drunk driver killed one person on Los Serranos Road. The following year, a G35 Infiniti slammed into Great Clips of Hair, a Chino Hills hair salon at 3626 Grand Avenue. The driver had punched through the salon's plate glass window, injuring two men and turning the store into quite a mess.

Most Chino Hills car collision lawyers agree that if drivers simply stayed within posted speed limits, followed safe driving techniques, and avoided distractions, there would be fewer accidents.
