Buena Park Car Accidents Have Fallen Below National Average

Buena Park car accident attorneys will tell you that car crashes occur regularly in a city like Buena Park in Orange County, California. Buena Park's 83,000 population swells much higher during the summer, bringing tourists to the many attractions situated in the so-called E-Zone district. Although below the national average, the city's accident statistics could be brought down.

The big three causes of car collisions remain the same in most cities--inattentive driving, talking on cell phones, and exceeding posted speed limits. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, from 2001 to 2003, Buena Park had 16 fatal car accidents, or two fatal crashes per 10,000 people, which was lower than the national norm.

In 2006, the California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) reported that five people were killed and 459 were injured in Buena Park car crashes. DUIs were responsible for three fatalities and 38 collision injuries. Pedestrian accidents injured 19. In addition, Buena Park bicycle accidents were responsible for two deaths and 31 injuries. Buena Park motorcycle accidents accounted for 16 injuries.

In 2007, five car accidents claimed six lives. These include a 49-year-old Buena Park man who lost his life in a three-car accident near Knott's Berry Farm. The tragedy occurred when his Honda struck a Volkswagen Jetta and a Ford Expedition at Crescent Avenue and Pierce Circle.

In 2009, a speeding Porsche northbound on Valley View Street veered out of control, struck a large power pole, and erupted into flames. The driver, 44-year-old James Huff, was on fire with two broken legs when two witnesses pulled him out of the car after the pre-dawn accident. The 28-year-old passenger from Norwalk died at the scene.

Most Buena Park car collision lawyers will agree, young men and late male teens are at highest risk in becoming accident statistics. A 2007 Carnegie-Mellon University study revealed that male drivers 16-23 are four times more likely to be involved in a fatal car accident than the average driver. This is often the result of their inexperience and immaturity. The fact is male drivers get into car crashes because they tend to speed and drive after they drink alcohol. In contrast, drivers between 40 and 50 years of age are least likely to suffer a fatal car accident.
