This treatment, administered by both emergency rescue personnel and hospital staff, is designed to stabilize the patient, and to stop the progression of damage to the brain. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation may be needed while the patient is being taken to the hospital. Emergency rescuers may also have to unblock airways, aid breathing, and keep blood circulating.

Traumatic Brain Injury Recovery

By Admin on June 12, 2009 - No comments

When the accident results in a traumatic brain injury (TBI), the process still begins with a trip to the emergency room. This is followed by time in the intensive care unit before the patient is considered stable enough to be transferred to a regular hospital bed. With milder forms of TBI, the bruising of the brain can heal, and either the brain cells can regain their function or other brain cells can take over for cells irreversibly damaged.
