Tire Tread Separation Causes Ford Rollover Accident

By Admin on May 16, 2011 - No comments

Maria Medina, 62, was injured in a San Diego car accident when a tire on her 1993 Ford Ranger blew out and separated. According to a news report in The Imperial Valley Press, the injury rollover accident occurred at Orchard Road in Imperial County the morning of May 13, 2011. Medina was travelling north when the tread on the right rear tire separated and her vehicle veered out of control. The pickup rolled over the center median before coming to rest on the shoulder. Emergency workers had to free the victim from her vehicle by shearing off the roof of her pickup truck. She suffered a broken left hand and arm. No one else was injured in the crash.

My thoughts and prayers are with Maria Medina following this serious injury rollover accident. I wish her the very best for a complete and speedy recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 25 people were killed and 297 were injured as a result of car accidents in the unincorporated areas of Imperial County. During the same year, there were 34 fatalities and 475 injuries reported as a result of Imperial County car accidents.

Tire Tread Separation Causes Rollover

It appears from the report that the vehicle veered out of control and rolled over after the tread on one of the tires separated. It will have to be determined what caused this tire tread separation. Did the tire fail because it was defective? If so, the tire manufacturer may be liable for the crash. Did the vehicle roll over because of a defective design? If that was the case, the manufacturer of the defectively designed vehicle can also be held financially responsible for the injuries, damages and losses sustained. Once a tire loses its tread, it can become difficult even for experienced drivers to regain control of the vehicle. Read the rest »

Kern County Rollover Accident Involves Possible Stop Sign Violation

By Admin on April 26, 2011 - No comments

Seven people were injured in a Bakersfield car accident involving two separate vehicles rolling over. According to an ABC news report, the rollover accident occurred at Lerdo Highway and Magnolia Avenue near Shafter the afternoon of April 24, 2011. Police say a white van went through a stop sign and struck a black SUV. Both vehicles rolled over and one person was ejected. Two victims suffered major injuries, two others sustained moderate injuries and the three victims suffered minor to moderate injuries. Investigators are trying to determine why the driver of the white van went through the stop sign.

My thoughts and prayers are with the many injured victims of this rollover accident. I wish them all the very best for a complete and speedy recovery.

Possible Stop Sign Violation

It appears from the report that one of the motorists, the driver of the white van, failed to obey a stop sign. According to California Vehicle Code Section 21802 (a): "The driver of any vehicle approaching a stop sign at the entrance to, or within, an intersection shall stop as required by Section 22450. The driver shall then yield the right-of-way to any vehicles which have approached from another highway, or which are approaching so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to those vehicles until he or she can proceed with reasonable safety." By Car Accident Lawyer on January 12, 2011 - No comments

Three young sons of Casey and Melanie Barber have been awarded $14.4 million in connection with a 2006 Ford rollover accident, which killed the San Diego couple. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the San Diego Superior Court jury made the decision January 11, 2011 in the lawsuit against Mossy Ford. The fatal car accident occurred July 31, 2006. Barber was driving his Ford E350 Sportsmobile van on Highway 98 in Arizona when a tire tread separation caused him to lose control of the vehicle. The Ford rolled over and both Barber and his wife, Melanie, died.

Faulty Tire Repair Caused Tread Separation

Attorneys for the Barber family argued that the dealer, Mossy Ford, performed a faulty tire repair, which led to the fatal car accident. They said the damage to the tire was so severe that the dealership should not have even tried to repair it. The Barbers' sons were 8, 5 and 3 at the time of the accident. Prior to this trial, attorneys for the children reached an $8.3 million settlement with other defendants who worked on the van. No details on that settlement were revealed due to a confidentiality agreement. Read the rest »
