The day before Mother's Day will be a special one to the staff of Bisnar | Chase. For a second year in a row, our staff will take part in the "Walk Like MADD" event put on by Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. MADD has been putting forth an effort to stop drunk driving for 30 years, and the Bisnar | Chase staff is proud to help out by donating time and money for this terrific cause.
Each year, local MADD organizations put on different events to support their non-profit organization and their mission. The Orange County MADD office has produced the Walk Like MADD event in Huntington Beach, CA throughout the years and Bisnar | Chase is thrilled to be a sponsor and have a Walk Team again. Mara Steves, 48, was killed in an Orange County car accident after she was hit by one of two vehicles that collided at a street intersection. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred at the intersection of Moulton Parkway and Nueva Vista Drive in Laguna Niguel the morning of February 13, 2011.
Steves was kneeling on the sidewalk of Moulton Parkway, next to a stray dog she had rescued, when an SUV jumped the curb and struck her. The two vehicles involved in the collision were a Toyota 4Runner and a Ford Explorer. Steves sustained fatal injuries. The 59-year-old male driver of the Toyota 4Runner suffered a bruised leg and his 56-year-old female passenger suffered a broken collarbone. The 27-year-old male driver of the Ford Explorer involved in the accident suffered bumps and bruises. Officials are investigating who caused the initial street intersection accident.

A pedestrian accident in Milpitas resulted in injuries for a 10-year-old girl the afternoon of January 5, 2011. KTVU News reports that the injury car accident occurred close to the intersection of Edsel Drive and Roswell Drive when two girls were walking in a marked crosswalk. One of the girls was hit by a school bus that was attempting a left turn. The girl was injured, but is expected to survive. Her friend escaped without any injuries. An investigation is ongoing.
It is indeed fortunate that the two children escaped without catastrophic injuries in this case. I wish the injured child a swift and full recovery. She will be in my thoughts and prayers.

There were 22 fatalities and 466 injuries in Santa Clara County as a result of pedestrian accidents in 2008, according to California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). Gustavo Gomez Pablo, 51 and Bahar Yaghoubian, 25, were both killed in a Los Angeles car accident that occurred at a street intersection. According to a news report in The Daily Breeze, the fatal car accident happened at the intersection of Federal Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard in West Los Angeles the morning of January 9, 2011.
The Los Angeles Times reports that a vehicle traveling south on Federal hit a car being driven by Yaghoubian and heading east on Santa Monica. Yaghoubian’s vehicle then veered out of control fatally striking a pedestrian, Pablo. Yaghoubian and Pablo were fatally injured in the accident, while the driver of the southbound vehicle received minor injuries. A third car also struck another stopped vehicle in the incident, but did not result in additional injuries.

Ani Voskanian, the 20-year-old Tujunga woman charged with vehicular manslaughter after officials alleged she was texting when she struck and killed 80-year-old Misak Ranjbar in a car accident in a Glendale crosswalk, has pleaded not guilty. She was arraigned on January 6, 2010. Last month, Voskanian's arraignment was postponed because her attorney needed more time to review the case. Voskanian's attorney told the Glendale News-Press: "I have 37 years experience and I have never seen a police report full of suppositions and conjectures without any concrete evidence."
Vehicular Manslaughter Charge
The felony vehicular manslaughter charge against Voskanian came three months after the fatal pedestrian accident. Officials say Voskanian drove through a stop sign and fatally struck Ranjbar who was walking in a marked crosswalk. Those who saw the car versus pedestrian accident say Voskanian made no attempt to stop whatsoever at the stop sign. An elderly man who was fatally injured in a pedestrian accident in Fremont has been identified by local authorities as 83-year-old Salim Nosrat. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the fatal car accident happened the morning of November 5, 2010 at the intersection of Norris Road and Fremont Boulevard. Nosrat was walking in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a light-colored 1995 Toyota Avalon, whose driver then left the scene. Nosrat sustained major head trauma and succumbed to his injuries. A pedestrian accident in the City Heights area of San Diego caused serious injuries to a woman the evening of October 26, 2010. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the accident happened at the intersection of Trojan Avenue and 54th Street, when the female pedestrian in her 60s was hit by a school bus carrying 15 students. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Ho, a wheelchair-bound man was going from his sister-in-law's house to his own home when he was hit the afternoon of December 1, 2009 at the 6th Street underpass at Ramona Road.
